WTF no Zhang Zi Yi?

2 thumbs down for not having Zhang Zi yi in here. I love her in CTHD.

reply

She wouldn't do it unless Ang Lee directed. Lee does not like to "repeat" his work, so with him bowing out, no Zhang.

NBD, IMHO.

How could she be in it when she died in the previous movie?
I mean , she jumped off the mountain to her certain death.

reply

She flew away just like Supergirl.

reply

She faked her death - it's in the original novel.

reply

If she is willing to act in the movie, I am sure they will have a better script to fit her in flashbacks or a different role.
She is smart to have avoided it.

reply

It seemed a lot like the Outlaw Woman character, who raised and trained Snow Vase, was intended to be Zhang's character Jen Yu. They must have reworked the script to reflect her absence.

reply

So she wasn't the lady that raised Snow Vase? They kept talking about Han Mei like we were supposed to know who she was. It would have made alot more sense if it was Jen Yu.

reply

Yes, she is the lady that raised Snow Vase. Han Mei and Jen Yu are one and the same character.

reply

Did she not die in the books? I would have loved for her to be in the sequel but it would have been lame for her to just show up as if she hadn't jumped off a mountain at the end of the first film. That was what made the first movie so emotional.

reply

She jumped off and floated away like she was doing the entire film. She wouldn't die from falling. This was a fake or symbolic death, only, as Lo understood when watching it.

reply

I refer to that as a "Zen ending" and never considered her dead. :)

reply

I took it as Lo understanding that it was a "real" death, hence his reaction.

Why aren't cookies called bakies?

No. In the book she faked her death by jumping off the bridge, then escaped to the desert. I remember reading that she raised two kids -a male and a female- at different times. One child she gave birth to and lost\, while the other one she adopted later on. Both non-related siblings grew up, found each other and fell in love.

As for Zhang Ziyi, she said that after Grandmaster that her body wouldn't be able to handle another martial arts film at her age, but my bet is that she would gladly do another if Ang Lee directed.

reply

That is correct. Han Mei and Jen Yu are one and the same character.
