Welfare - US v Europe

I was surprised to see in the film that refugees and asylum seekers are expected to pay for the cost of the plane ticket to the US, and on arrival in the US that they are then expected to look for employment, and that they really need to pay their own way. They are given a 'leg-up' with the expectation that it is up to them to use that chance to better themselves and to improve their lives rather than relying on welfare.

What a contrast to the UK and much of Europe where there is no expectation that refugees and asylum seekers should have to do so. Having said that, many do find work and attempt to better themselves, but there are many who are quite happy to spend the rest of their lives on welfare, lazing and loafing about whilst others go out to work to pay taxes that are then spent on welfare giving them free housing, free healthcare and free spending money.

I'm a Brit and this was an eye-opener to me. As well as for refugees and asylum seekers, for way too many Brits a life on welfare is a life-style choice because welfare is way too generous and there is no incentive or expectation to work.
