Is this the plot of High Plains Drifter?

1973 movie with Clint Eastwood. Is this film's premise like that and is it worth watching?

reply

Not at all. It's much more similar to The Great Silence with perhaps some small elements of Pale Rider. If you like westerns, this is a good movie.

reply

Thanks I'll check it out then.

What makes High Plains Drifter good is that it has an American sense of morality. I don't know what this movie was all about, but it misses the mark in every way, in addition it is pointlessly violent and brutal.

This was just as good as High Plains Drifter. My favorite western. American sense of morality? What is that? The Drifter was an Avenging Angel. Grieder was an Avenging Son.
It is a movie that you have to LISTEN to as well as watch. Did not know this was a movie let alone a book. Now I will find the book.

And if I am an American I cannot have an Italian sense of style.

nice job avoiding all questions.

reply

Sorry, but I think that covers everything really.

reply

According to you. Please try and make better arguments if you want people to take you seriously. American morality? Give me a break.

reply

miounew, let us see if i can put "an american sense of morality" into perspective for you. let us start with D-Day, the Allied Invasion of Normandy. at this point your Eurotrash mouth should shut the *beep* up.

your pathetic comments about Americans are the stupidest i've read this week. for such an intelligent European you certainly come across as one of the champion troll *beep* on IMDb. the correct naming of 'football'? that's the best you've got? come now you can do better than that.

what ever happened to those plans for a master race? did it meet face to face with an american sense of morality?

We deal in lead, friend.

reply

yeah, im from sweden, and you can go look up what swedes did during world war two.

and about the iq, well that still holds up, go check your facts.

and my "pathetic comments abouts americans", did i really say that? quite sure i said the US or US americans... but ok then, i would like to thanks bolivia, uruguay and hmm... lets take peru.. for coming to the rescue during ww2... oh and lets not forget the great canada!

(if you did not get that, it is because you said "an american sense of morality, and i can only assume by you lumping all of the americas together that you love the colombian morality..)

i guess you've sort of proven the american IQ standards yourself there...

reply

i guess the term 'Allied Invasion' doesn't include bolivia, uruguay, peru and canada in your definition? i know of sweden's contribution to the war. i know where eastwood's films were filmed, i know who wrote and directed them. believe it or not most older U.S. americans know these facts. i'll admit we have produced some stupid offspring in recent time as evidenced by comments on this IMDb board and other social media.

i know and have worked with several people with high IQs and honestly, most didn't have the common sense given the rest of us so why you are so hung up on the collective IQ of any country is hard to understand frankly. i'd enjoy hearing your next rant on why an IQ index is so important to your world view.

the original topic was the term "an american sense of morality" used by a previous poster which you questioned and asked to be defined. i gave you a prime example. i have assumed this poster was referring to a U.S. american sense of morality. apparently you feel the term "american" must always include our southern and northern neighbors and perhaps it always should in your new world order but honestly speaking most U.S. americans these days are getting very border conscious so this has become a major U.S. election issue. we don't see our continents as one big happy family as you would like.

i'd be less inclined to use european football or soccer of whatever you choose to call it as an example of some form of superior intellect because we choose to call a completely different sport by the same name. the european football league is corrupt from the top down. the world knows this now. have you ever seen a U.S. American football game? this past season several games were played in england. maybe someday i'll get to see a european soccer game to see what the fuss is all about but from what i see on screen i'm not impressed. perhaps your sport has to be seen in a stadium because it looses its intensity on screen. this could be the same for american football.

all said, i'd think your country has its hands full with the syrian refugee problem which have made their way into your beautiful country. i'd be more concerned with this threat to your society than what we incorrectly call 'football'. but we all need our misplaced anger don't we?

yeah, i actually talked about the average iq, so i am fully aware of the fact that sweden isnt at the top like japan and south korea..

and football, well that is just an example of your non-logical tinking..
if you put your hands on it the most time, why call it football?
i guess some drunk guy came up with the name sarcastically..

and yeah, i think we should be worried about all the refugees coming here, seeing how sweden took in the most people per population quota.
the problem though, is that they mostly keep to themselves and dont learn to speak swedish or english..

apart from being idiots who think they need to carve out their territory where they live... they arent really a threat to us, since you know, unlike you we dont go destroy other countries for no reason whatsoever.. so we havent made as many enemies. i mean you've gone like.. 20 years without war since 1776 or whatever the year was.. you seem to love war.

if these terrorists were so much against freedom as some US politicians say, how come they dont really focus their effort on the netherlands or portugal or anything like that..

and lets not forget, it was your country that supplied afghanistan with weapons in the first place.. you've really managed to create war..

oh yeah, and back to my main complaint.. well the fact was that i once read peoples opinions of neil youngs song "southern man" where some redneck made a comment saying he wouldnt have minded it so much, if he had only been american!!

and since well, canada is part of the americas, he's just a plain idiot.
and no, this comment was made long before trolls started popping up everywhere..

reply

on every question you are trolling this film. maybe the film is absolutely great and you are one of the few who understood *beep* all abbout it? ah, not possible coz you are american? sure yeah, learning a second language and being not ignorant is really not your folks style... alas, send the marines to kill such blasphemers who dare think different

hypersonic, The Dark Valley has more similarity to High Plains Drifter than it does Pale Rider. HPD is about revenge, PR is an answer to prayer. The Dark Valley is about revenge.
i'm certain you will see the difference when you see this excellent (Alpine) western.

reply

Very much Great Silence - I wonder if the director has admitted this? There's also a debt to Texas Addio/Texas Adios... a debt which George Lucas owes too ;)

reply

The final scene at least was Pale Rider.

reply

Seems more like it's pulling from Django Unchained, and the town reminds me of the one from McCabe & Mrs. Miller. There's maybe some Unknown Valley in there, but I don't know, given how it's seems to be a pretty ubscure western from '33; my guess would be what mild relation I see there is just more coincidence. Now that I think about it, what happens in the main characters backstory is also not too unlike the one the main character has in Sukiyaki Western Django.
