Oh god that ending...

The first three episodes built up pretty well to what would have to be an intriguing finale. Which was true for the first 50 minutes of the final episode. But sadly, I think the whole thing was let down by an unbelievable, ridiculous blood-bath of an ending - that left me truly disappointed.

I was quite surprised, i did not see it coming.....

I feel so sorry for that poor woman being kept captive, supposedly domestic violence in LGBT relationships is the most common and yet very under reported.

reply

Same, although I was annoyed that she killed Melissa without even having a reasonable motive...

reply

Don't think she needed one. Living with Elaine would drive anyone round the twist.

reply

Good point. We rarely see that kind of abusive relationship portrayed on TV. We're usually fed the same politically correct happy-shiny stuff when it comes to LGBT couples.

But I was slightly confused about one thing (maybe I missed a couple important seconds worth b/c I did step away from the TV several times) - Was Peggy's eventual death the result of suicide or murder (by Elaine)? Because we saw that she certainly tried to commit suicide a bit earlier but it looked like Elaine had "saved her" and strapped her to the bed to prevent her from further harming herself....

reply

It's left unclear, but that earlier scene suggested that a)Peggy couldn't kill herself and b)Elaine didn't care if Peggy died. Couple that with Elaine's increasing possessiveness and general psycho behaviour, it implies the bed ties were to stop her escaping rather than to stop her committing suicide. In turn that implies Elaine killed Peggy, either directly or (more likely??) by neglect/starvation.

I liked it, was a great twist and I balled like a baby!

I felt the ending worked rather well with a twist upon a twist.

Its that man again!!

Yeah, the ending was a bit "what the hell??" for me.

Look at me I'm a whole new girl jumping hopscotch on top of the world

I was dissapointed with the ending, so many loose ends and red herrings, all crammed in. When the murder was finaly revealed it was pathetic and unreal. Then the usual Fatal Attraction twist...

reply

The ending was a surprise for me and shocking

reply

Absolutely agree. I was almost laughing it was so ridiculous. And "ridiculous" is the word that kept popping into my mind. Oh. Along with "ludicrous" and possibly "preposterous".

This is just another of those scripts that flails about trying to come up with a corker of an ending. And, failing to do so, absolutely everything gets thrown at the screen with the hope that something sticks. But it was all just a dumb bloody mess. Boo. :(

reply

Agree, Up till the last fifteen minutes of ep 4 I was scoring this a 7 or 8, despite feeling it'd been too drawn out. Especially loved the editor finally telling his prick son was a douche he was (though, tbf, the son did save the dad's gf from date rape the previous episode, which was a good twist. But the end was like something out of a bad sub-Argento '70's Italian gallio knock-off, just awful, had to take off two points.

Just saw this and I disagree with both you and the poster below you. The show was suspenseful and interesting right down to the end. I was gripped to my seat from the beginning to the end and find no fault with it. I would recommend this for anyone who likes suspense and a great mystery. Sometimes I think we can over think things or get too picky. Gripping, from beginning to end.

RIP Lee Thompson Young. Too young and gone too soon!

Even tho they were foreshadowing a near-certain bow and arrow fate for the killer, due to reiterating his skill at hitting the bullseye many times, that part felt a bit forced too. I guess since he had moved into the apt it was easily within reach, but considering his condition minutes prior, it seemed unlikely he'd be able to use it.

reply

Never mind how he was able to fire an arrow - how did he get up the stairs to his own flat?!

reply

That bow & arrow was very much Chekov's gun!

Domestic violence in LGBT is the most common? Is it?
That may or may not be true, but your grasp of how lesbians are represented in the media is sketchy. If you can find any at all then "happy-clappy" is not the norm, not in majority of the last 60 years!
But we can certainly agree this ending was a farce.
My wife and I enjoyed the first three episodes, kept saying it's very 'dark', they're all horrible, etc. But, blimey! We were in hysterics with the last segment. Seems they saved up all the laughs for the last 15 minutes. Disappointing.
It would have been more radical for the young woman in the cellar to have taken the fall, and the lesbians to get away with their crime. That would have been better.

reply

have to agree. I think an open ending would have been much better... perhaps with the girl with the baby in the loft..
