Can anyone explain the WTF ending!?

This movie made absolutely no sense. I dont understand the obscure title either. They play the song midnight special during the credits. It still seems like some obscure inside reference to something only the writers would understand. I dont understand the WTF Tomorrowland ending. I was expecting Hugh Laurie to pop up somewhere. Is it religion or extraterrestrial? Who knows.

It's Lesbians.

Lol

Extraterrestrials to answer your question, Alton made it clear earlier in the film he is not what the religious freaks say he is.

I thought it was pretty obvious that the beings were from a parallel dimension... "another Earth" for a lack of a better term. A dimension more technologically advanced, as well as biologically. That was why their landmarks appeared "on top" of ours. When the boy said "they live above us", he made gestures with his hands to imply layers. That was my read anyway lol. As far as the title... The cult that essentially worshiped the child held their sermons at night due to his sensitivity with light. Hence, the midnight special ala midnight mass. Again, just my interpretation. Maybe that helped? haha

"Call me Winston."

reply

"Maybe that helped? haha" - Heaps, but what I don't get is if Alton was an extraterrestrial or a being from a parallel dimension, how could he have come from two ordinary people?

reply

Possibly a nod to Christianity?

reply

Maybe he had a rare genetic mutation which is actually common in the other dimension.

reply

How could you not tell that the boy was an extraterrestrial? He said so a dozen times. The beings from his world brought him back.

reply

I didn't see that part in the movie.

reply

not only did Alton NEVER say he was an extraterrestrial, nobody else did either.

it was left vague intentionally, he could be many things.

but probably not an alien since aliens do not live on earth, outside of mexico anyway.

reply

He said there was another world above theirs, which was where he thought he belonged. Not sure if that makes him extraterrestrial or not!

Extraterrestrial: Of or from outside the earth or it's atmosphere.

The other world was within our atmosphere, so I'd say not an ET!

I'm the player to be named later.

He was talking about a parallel universe. He called them "people." He explained that the other world watched ours, all the time.

Earth is earth is earth, no matter which quantum reality.

There were some vague elements of the film, but this part was spelled out pretty clearly in simple terms.

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.

reply

The futuristic buildings and beings were part of a usually-invisible parallel universe on earth that the boy explains earlier in the movie. He belonged in that universe, not ours. Kind of interesting.

reply

Huh? No sense. I never wanna watch movies with you.

Midnight Special refers to a special passenger train in the South that shines a bright light and takes you away from where you don't want to be. There is a famous song about it.

"Let the Midnight Special shine her light on me
Let the Midnight Special shine her ever-loving light on me"

Once you know this and see the movie you should understand the reference and the movie title.

reply

Yeah, this movie has a lot of 'what the F' moments.

Like -

Why does he have those little lights in his eyes? Why does he have to wear ear muffs and goggles and stuff??

Why is Adam Driver's nose so ginormous?

Why do Kirsten Dunst's boobs look so perky in that massive sweater she's wearing? And why did none of the men try to feel them?

Are those stolen cars they're in? You know, they used to hang people for stealing horses.

And how was that kid able to escape captivity like that?

How did his parents give birth to a light child?

Why did satellites fall from the sky?

Damn, the list goes on and on....

LOL... all jokes aside... I think it's supposed to be like a 4th dimension. We live in the 3rd dimension, the light people live in the 4th dimension and the kid is a link to that the 4th dimension. Something like that....

But whatever, this movie fell a little short for me, I just couldn't get into it.
