Is this connected to BBC series Silk (2011)?

I just watched the first episode of this show and both the plot (unpleasant case, suspect stalks lawyer, lawyer up for judgeship) and characters (like Sophie Okonedo's character) are remarkably similar to the series Silk that PBS aired a little while ago. Is this a deliberate connection or a more depressing remake? I wasn't sure but there are so many similarities I thought I'd ask. Thank you.

Neither, they're two unrelated TV shows that happen to be about roughly the same subject. It becomes more of a thriller and has less in common with Silk as it goes on.

There have been a lot of British courtroom series--off the top of my head, besides Silk, there was Kavanagh QC and Rumpole of the Bailey, not to mention lots of movies from Witness for the Prosecution to Brothers in Law. So the settings will be pretty similar for all of them.

The show that was almost exactly likeSilk was North Square. It was written by the same person and had the same lead actor in Rupert Penry-Jones. Guess what it was about? It was half courtroom drama and half soap opera about the group of barristers at their chambers!!
