Why was this ever made?

I think we all agree it's *beep* but why did the BBC even sanction it and then,after obviously approving scripts and giving it the go ahead,tuck it away in a late night slot where it will be seen by very few people. The same thing happened to another sitcom 'Being Eileen' which was at least tolerable. Why make this dross and then chicken out when it comes to a time slot? it can't do much for the confidence of the younger players.
