Laugh-track shows don't normally make me laugh, but

I'm loving Dads. I'm surprised it got such horrible reviews on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes. Really hope this sticks around, I'm already sad enough with Welcome to the Family gone.

I think he tunes out the opening when one of the characters say Dads is filmed in front of a live studio audiences

reply

No I don't. I just tend to catalogue any show where audience laughing is heard throughout under "shows that possess laugh tracks." Doesn't matter if the laugh track is pre-recorded or not.

Ah. Didn't think of that. Honestly, the racist/ethnic jokes haven't really stuck out to me. The other jokes tend to overshadow them for me. I'm surprised I haven't heard anyone go off about Warner's birthday being on 9/11 and the scene that went with that.

I laughed my a$$ off on that one. Then I kinda started to think about all the people who have birthdays on that day and that must actually suck.

"I'm sorry... There's laughing in my head."

I know. I felt kinda bad about laughing at that. Dads definitely isn't too concerned about censoring their material when it comes to sensitive subjects. A Dose of Buckley (very angry YouTube comedian) did a video about comedians having to apologize for their comedy because someone deemed it offensive. It's a pretty good video.

I know a friend whose birthday's on 9/11... but then, he's not from the US. Yet, we remember joking about that once!

What's the goddamn harm if Dads make a joke about it??!!

reply

Or maybe it has horrible reviews because critics genuinely think it's awful?
I'm not gonna rate the whole show but I watched an episode recently and it was painfully unfunny and cringe-worthy.

reply

I think a lot of the horrible reviews were based off the pilot which did suck but this show has grown to be one of my favorites since.

I love the edgy jokes the show has, it makes it different from the other sitcoms. They make fun of all races & religions so it isn't like they are just constantly picking on one.

Last episode I was crying when Crawford had the scene with Warner's neighbors.

That's one thing my dad points out about South Park when people criticize it for mocking some religions. Making fun of groups of people is a tricky thing: you either have to make fun of everyone or no one at all.

It has an impressive laugh track, I would at least give it that.
