anyone know last season's ratings?

it's looking like a wise decision on Fox's part to renew given Pitch is likely dead and Rosewood is likely on its way out. Bones is also coming up on its final season at some point. neither Gotham nor Lucifer are spectacular performers either.

The season average was .83, finale was a .7, but the two before were .6. I'd expect .7 at best for the S4 premiere, .6 or worse after. All of S3's ratings are here: http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/sleepy-hollow-season-three-ratings-38295/

I honestly think it was only renewed to fill in all the timeslots American Idol freed up by its ending.

thanks. yeah I ended up finding one example after asking at that same site around that which had me rethinking the possibility of rosewood and pitch being canceled.

pitch is about .7 or so but it's also only going to be 10 episodes so unless that was the original goal I think that's pretty telling of its chances.

rosewood is getting the same rating and is also being moved to fridays but if I recall correctly sleepy hollow was moved as well but still renewed.

I'm sort of new to understanding the tv rating system. Obviously you want to score as high as you can, but what is the lowest a show could typically get if they didn't want to get canceled? Like a .7 or .8?

What's Considered a good tv rating? Anything above 1.0?

Thanks!

There is no real key number; ratings go lower every year. What you want is your show to get better ratings than most of the shows on the same network in that TV season (like Fall 2016-Spring 2017). The rating average for a season is more important than any one episode's rating.

This is a good source for information on TV ratings. It breaks down show ratings by network and give some predictions based on those ratings as to whether a show has a chance of being renewed or cancelled.

If you look at the detailed rankings for each network, you'll see there is a lot of variation in typical ratings. A show with a 1.15 demo rating on the CW is ranked as "a sure to be renewed" A show with a 1.16 demo on NBC is ranked as a "tossup".

Aside from the demo rating itself, consider how many shows on the same network are doing worse. That's where this site got the "Cancellation Bear" idea from. Shows don't have to outrun the bear, they just have to outrun other shows on their same network. If a show has a 1.2 demo rating on a network with 6 shows under 1.0, it's probably pretty safe. If there is only one show under a 1.0 demo and all the other shows are above 1.2, that show is probably toast unless other factors are in play.

And you will also see that the predicted renew/cancel notes don't always seem to follow their demo ratings, when there are other factors at play (a show produced by the network, or nearing enough episodes for syndication as two examples)

I follow how TV Grim Reaper does it - the original owner of that site and until last season, the Cancellation Bear.

None of this matters when it comes to Fox. They are the new CW. What would surely get you canceled on the Big 3 networks will easily get you a second, third and fourth season on Fox. Almost all their shows are colossal failures. At the moment, I think Fox only has one show that has a demo 2.0 and higher (Empire). Fox routinely renews shows that have demos as low of 0.4, particularly if they’re in their third or fourth season. Sleepy Hollow is on the right network for low expectations.
