Wow... this is brilliant!

I tuned in for a lazy Sunday night casual watch for what sounded like a promising premise. A take on the guy who penned Bond and his exploits? Sure. As a Bond lover it was a no brainer. However I didn't expect to be hooked by the first part's end! This is fabulous.

I have serious doubts, yet no real idea how actually factual it is based, but truth be told I don't care. It feels as if we are watching a young James Bond anyway. On a lesser level, the 'character' that is Fleming. And least of all, the real Fleming.

The script is killer - so many memorable lines just keep on coming. Great cinematography, and a very capable cast. Enthralling.

Dom is fantastic. Risky having such a young (damn... I was just about to write 'Bond' considering how well he fits the part) actor, portraying such a pivotal character. Again, he really does feel more Bond than Fleming, even if we're to believe there is some dramatization of his life.
I'm not familiar with any of his other work besides Tony Stark in the Marvel-verse - which I thought he did exceptionally well with. But he smashes it out of the park here with the perfect blend of attitude, wit, suave and self-assuredness take against everyone around him. So much modern culture and so many modern shows just totally miss those times when a man just used to be... a real bloody man! Give me a slicked hair bloke in a finely tailored suit, a smoke slash drink and a hint of danger in the eye, over some douchebag with beard scruff and T-shirt 5 sizes too big any day.

I'll admit the overly gratuitous sex scenes were a little eye-roll, but not that big a distraction.

Very much enjoying the break of war period setting here, too. I always envisaged something along these lines if they ever made the Medal of Honor Frontline game into a mini-series, with the OSS agent/spy James Patterson going behind enemy lines. It's basically exactly what's unravelling right here. Great job to all involved.

I actually enjoyed it more than the Bond films, maybe because I was expecting Lifetime-esque cheesiness and it was better. It's still a little campy, but it's great entertainment. Fun.
