Who did Ellen remind you of?

While watching the first few early episodes, Toni Collette's flighty look with the constantly darting eyeballs, eyelid flutters, sideways furtive glances, downward orientation was really annoying. Exactly NOT what one would expect from a "top thoracic surgeon."

That hangdog, long-haired visage looked familiar but I just couldn't place it. At first I thought it might have been one of Laraine Newman's characters (she of the original Saturday Night Live cast fame). Sort of, but that was not quite it.


Then it dawned on me that Ellen's thin, hangdog face had the sort of quality of the famous series of Weimaraner dog portraits shot by William Wegman (see here: http://www.pinterest.com/pegasmith/william-wegman/).


No, close, but that was not exactly it, either...


Finally, it hit me as I was watching the last couple of episodes of "Hostages" today - Ellen reminded me a lot of Louise Lasser ("Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" to those of a certain age).
