Horrid this show is. It made me so angry that I had to come here and rant about how terrible it is. The plot is full of holes the size of Texas and none of the characters are like able. The one character I hate the least, the Dr's husband, is a cheater and louse, that's all anyone needs to know about this cast of characters. The family had a million chances to break free and the children are dumb as rocks. Gah! I can't express how much I hate this show and I watch soap operas, this show is worse on plot and acting and badly written characters.

for me it was ridiculous because it was based on an absurd premise.

A doctor is chosen to perform surgery on the President, and she is introduced to the public at a press conference.

I can't believe this woman was simply allowed to go home with no Secret Service protection for her and her family, given that everyone now knows who she is. I also can't believe some stranger walked in and out of her office and no one said anything - the one who was wiring her office, I think.

And it had a ton of holes. There were times that scheme could have been blown sky high and no one did it.

And those stupid kids, on the run and the boy uses a pay phone to call Daddy instead of calling the FBI, if he was going to do anything.

Junk.

Feels a lot like The Following, which at some point at least didn't try to be more than the embarrassingly campy crap it really was.

Just the fact that the kidnappers placed the faith in the kids not being idiots already stretched reality. They have this elaborate scheme and then they just make it dependend on all those wonky details and entirely unplannable parts. It felt like the writers simply could not come up with a good plan once they wrote the pilot.

Yes and it was based on an Israeli show - it's hard to believe, the way Israelis are about security, that this American show followed theirs in any meaningful way. I mean, look at Homeland, also based on an Israeli show. I've never seen so many stupid people in one place. And Toni Colette looked like a drag queen. I saw her in another movie recently and she looked fantastic - blonder hair, short, beautiful haircut, great makeup. And of course I didn't even recognize her in Sixth Sense.

Now I am tempted to see the original.

one thing we know - it has to be better.

I highly recommend the Israeli original (also called Hostages). It is available on Netflix. It's the same story but with enough small differences to make it worthwhile. I think the ending is better too. And there is a second season.

The plot of the Israeli is still far fetched though and the ending involves a ludicrous plot twist. But it's very well acted.

thanks, would love to see it. I just thought the American version had so many holes in it.
