Terribly Bad

This has to be one of the worst things I've seen. I won't even say it's a 'movie'. No suspense no action stupid story. You don't ever see anything interesting. The poster is deceptive you see nothing.
Boring bad lines and clumsy amateur filmmaking, not to mention an insult to the Frankenstein story. just awful.

So I take it you didn't watch untill the end because there are several moments where we get a good all be it quick look at the monster. The best horror films don't need action or tits and ass or even fire just a solid concept and some suspense wich this film had. My only complaint is treating the monster as a thoughtless beast. I was hoping it would end with a conversation between the monster and the doctoral student followed by one final killing but as it is its a solid well shot and well acted budget horror film.
I fear that people now think of terrible and completely fright free films like saw or the American version of the ring or paranormal activity when they think of horror but all those films managed to accomplish was show how stupid the American film going populace is

Good Horror contains a multitude of very suspenseful moments. This had none.

You mean like the moment when they hear "wolves" noises, but if you pay attention they actually sound human?

Or the moment when you hear screams outside the cabin?

Or the moment when their snowmobiles are wrecked?

Or the moment when they are in the grove and find the body? (This moment really got my heart racing)

Or the moment when they are all stranded and heading in different directions trying to find whats-his-name?

Or the moment when he finds his body, but then it was just a trap?

Or the moment when they are stuck outside the cabin while the monster trashes the inside?

OR the final, epic moment, when the doctor tries to reason with the beast while the girl is stuck inside the cabin with no help?

I guess if you forgot about all those moments (I.E. not watch the movie) then you would say it had no suspenseful moments.

I guess your definition of "suspense" is something that's very gory and has people being dismembered in brutal ways. Sorry, but go play Call of Duty or something. Obviously you cannot appreciate any real art.

Listen pal, there are certain markers that have to be met in order for a film to be entertaining. Read Umberto Eco's "Aesthetics and Philosophy of Film". This collection of frames is just a bunch of crappy actors spewing really lousy exposition driven dialog. Plus the 'Found Footage' motif is really old hat now. The 'filmmakers' and I use that term very loosely, put absolutely no thought or effort into making this catastrophe. At best they had no experience in making an entertaining motion picture. The original Frankenstein had no blood or gore but was an excellent and terrifying film. So you can see I'm not using blood & gore as a benchmark. This movie didn't even make it into theaters that's how bad it was! Obviously you don't have a very sophisticated palate and are easily entertained. Now go back to watching paint dry.

Real art, that's a laugh. Real junk is more like it.

Wow, so you have quite a high opinion of yourself and aren't afraid to show it. Good for you!

Thanks!

Actually I watched the original (and Korean later) versions of The Ring first. I preferred the American version. Part of it was because of Ringu's emphasis on studying Samara's mothers psychic abilities which felt like they were trying to ground the mysterious with scientific study. Those parts dragged for me and took away from the creepiness of it (not totally of course). The only thing I really found new enjoyable in the Korean version was the very end. To my surprise I assumed 'The Ring' would be a crappy remake, but I felt the executed it well, and the kid's reaction to 'freeing' the girl was great. All are worth watching.

BTW, I knew what you meant but it's 'albeit' which is nearly pronounced the same as 'all be it'

Since FT is on netflix, I'll probably give it a chance at some point.

It's so small-minded to jump to the argument that Americans are stupid.

Really? Check that country's history of late.

This is one of the worst things you've seen? Go to your nearest Walmart and buy one of those horror movie DVD combo packs and then come back here and see if you can still say that.

reply

I bought two of them at the same time. Yes they are generally unwatchable. Frankenstein Theory should however be included in a future DVD set.

Thought the movie was okay but the acting was terrible. I too was hoping for a more cerebral ending with an interview with the monster, which it seemed to set up at first.

My question about the ending is whether or not the girl is dead or if the creature is taking her away for other purposes. I noticed he had the doll in his hand as well, which also had red hair. I presume there is supposed to be a connection.

reply

I agree. Can't believe I sat through it all when it was done.
