I think that's why his (older) mother warned the older brother not to play with Rodrigo for 3 days. Remember there was the part where the older brother handed young mom the note and said something about not to play with Rodrigo. Then later in the movie it shows old mom telling older brother not to play with Rodrigo for 3 days.
If Leopoldo didn't play baseball that day with Rodrigo and their friends, he never would have accidentally killed Rodrigo by hitting the baseball. (Leopoldo never understood why he was not supposed to play with him for 3 days. He asked his young mom why, but she did not have the answer. I'm not sure why the old mom didn't tell him though.)

Dulce asked 2071 version of Leo about going back and saving Rodrigo. He then told her that they can not control the time - that the house does. So they could not go back to when Rodrigo was alive on their own free will.
shareThat's the reason the movie gives, but I can't shake how stupid that is. It just doesn't make any sense to me that grown-up Leo wouldn't find a way to go back and rescue his brother. Then, of course, both boys would have disappeared instead of one of them being killed, but whatever. Would have been a much better story.
share Thank God you were not the writer of this movie.
