Question about Priest *MAY BE SPOILER*

When young Leo meets the priest...Did Leo know the priest? He kinda seemed too happy to see him and they just had a look like they knew each other...?

I am not just confused about life. I am too cute for that. I prefer confuzzled.

The priest was his childhood friend. Notice that the priest do the secret handshake that they always did when they were kids.
And the woman at the end was his brother girlfriend.

There was a character, Mario (?), who barely matters except for at Rodrigo's funeral, where Leo tells him something like "You're my only brother now." That kid is the priest.

I didn't remember the secret handshake from the beginning. I thought the priest was Rodrigo somehow (due to Leo getting a do-over to not play with Rodrigo for three days, and Rodrigo becoming an orphan when his mother went to jail and he grew up to become a priest and take over the orphanage) until they clarified it by blatantly asking if they would see Rodrigo again. So that was a bit of a let down. :/

That's one of the many things I liked about this one.

Like another poster (kicapp) said, the priest was a childhood friend of Leo. He only appeared prominently in a single scene (the funeral), where they showcased the handshake they do at the end.

A lot of movies might have done some kind of quick flashback to that scene, and arguably, maybe this film should have, but I appreciated that they expected us to get it. They did introduce both characters as 'Mario' at different times, which I didn't really catch, and I rather dug how they dovetailed the characters at the end.
