Just depressing (spoilers)

I hate to become attached to characters, watch them endure hardships, and then the filmmaker KILLS THEM. Or in this case, one of them. Why? She the hell would they do that?

The acting was grand and as a strong ally, I was all set to love this film. It started off beautifully, then the difficult crap came - Act 2. Story is replete with snarky teen, awkward family situation - presumably our protagonists had to live separately because the teen needed his bed back... so we have our sweet, lovely uncle in a bunk bed in a room with a pissed off teen who is unkind. He's a third wheel and DEFINITELY feels the welcome wearing off. FINALLY, his husband finds an apartment they can afford and... (drumroll...) the filmmaker KILLS HIM, leaving a newlywed widower who could not even line under the same roof as his darling.

What kind of person tells a story like that?! And why do critics call it "romantic"? It's not romantic! It's depressing. I want my money AND my time back. Tragedies like that are not romantic or profound... they are just depressing.

It's called a romance because their love and devotion was strong and rare. The rest of what happened to this couple ultimately happens to everyone, in one form or another.

Do you think any couple who has been together for decades gets to have some sort of peaceful ending where they pass away in their own bed at the same time with their arms wrapped around each other? No. There's a nursing home, an infirmity, somebody has to move in with the kids or you're suddenly forced to rely on others when you've been independent your whole life.

It's okay if you prefer to see the credits roll before the end of the story, but you don't get your money back.
