...end tragically?
Just once I would like a happy ending.
Because the "straight" world views us as pitiful little creatures that do not deserve happiness because we "choose" to go against what they believe. Every single gay movie ends tragically (even if the story or book ends differently). We must suffer in this straight world. Sad indeed. :(

And I don't think the ending to this one had anything to do with the fact that they were gay so much as the fact that they were older. Which happens to gay people and straight people alike.
I would recommend Latter Days, Shelter, any of the Donald Strachey series (there are four of them), Maurice, Just a Question of Love and many more.
That's right. This film does not end tragically. The couple is older and one will likely die before the other, just as it happens with straight people. It's not necessarily tragic, it's reality. This film shows them as people, regardless of sexual orientation.
shareI agree. I find this film "poignant" sad as opposed to "disturbing" sad like what the OP is trying to say. I actually find this film in most part (slash the end part) very hopeful, pleasant and joyous! I mean almost 40 years together? They are happy, Ben died happy- that's life. Not like some other gay films where one of the characters is murdered or killed in an accident.
