Not sure why someone thought there was a film in this

I'm just home from seeing this film tonight.

It was a pleasant enough divertissement, but honestly both the script and the acting were pretty drab. There were a couple of nicely-written scenes, but nothing witty or clever; Kate Winslet was earnest, Alan Rickman seemed really tired, and Stanley Tucci was a delight but only really had about four minutes of screen time; Matthias Schoenaerts was sombre and serviceable, but nothing more.

There were moments I enjoyed, that made me smile, but really, there's no natural story here. As a film, it's a fairly uninteresting bush forced from a few cuttings twined together.

Ah well.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

I think the actors do their best, but there really isn't much of anything there, you're right. If it had been a TV movie I'd have minded much less.

Mr. Campbell... Who cares?

I really enjoyed the film and found it a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. I thought the music was beautiful and I was entertained by the story. The scene in the little garden with Kate and Alan Rickman was, to my mind, the best in the film and I can't say he struck me as being tired. The rest of the cast were also very good. Granted, the film wasn't exactly a masterpiece, but I had a good time watching it.

I saw it yesterday and I enjoyed it. Of course nothing to be excited for, but a pleasant movie with an unusual story. I always love Kate Winslet and I did here too. On the contrary Matthias Schoenaerts' face says nothing, he's completely blank and I want to know the one (or more than one) who, a couple of years ago, declared he was "the new Fassbender". Fortunately there's Alan Rickman and, above all, Stanley Tucci, great and at ease even in the role of a French gentleman of 1600!!

Agree with OP, Rickman looked tired. Tucci seemed over the top and out of place. Winslet was graceful as always. I expected better with this cast. Boring overall. Not sure why movie sites lists this as a comedy. I usually love anything with Matthias Schoenarts, but this one was just not worthy of his acting style.
