Jennifer Ehle overracting like mad

Her last final bit had my eyes rolling, it was almost cringe worthy.

How do you rate this movie? Where you saw it UK or USA? Free ticket?

Funny in the movie awards thread you criticized her for basically taking a part that was a blip in the film. Now she's overacting? Make up your mind.

It's not like there are a plethora of parts for a mid 40's actress who really never broke thru and in the midst of a career, legitimately took off 3-5 years to get married and have kids.

The film was ok, nothing great. Winslet and Schoenaerts didn't gel and if anyone was overacting it was Stanley Tucci, who's performance was probably the most fun out of anyone in the film. I like Kate Winslet a lot but she did nothing for me in the film.

Ehle did not over act! I enjoyed the film. Winslet and Rickman are obviously good friends. He needed a great actress for lead to get the film bankrolled and to be enjoyable. Winslet has to carry this small film. Winslet, of course, handles the task with aplomb and skill. I thought the film was beautiful and entertaining.

Rickman's directorial debut was The Winter Guest, actually: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120521/. Which, in my opinion, was a far better film. That said, regardless of other people's reactions to the film, he seems genuinely proud of it. Good for him.

I agree with the OP. She stood out like a sore thumb for me and took me out of the movie. There's a reason that Winslet and not Ehle are getting the lead in movies like this. Winslet is a very subtle actress.

I simply am not there...

I was just so happy to see her! Love, love Jennifer Ehle - she's a radiant actress. What a shame we don't see her in more films.

She did well except I agree that last line was over the top. But the writers should not have even had her say it. It felt like they were force feeding the audience.
It was a quaint movie but had a lot of moments where it felt overly sentimental. Almost like a hallmark movie of the week. Kate Winslet saved the movie for me, although this role was nothing compared to what she pulls off when working with a great writer and director in Steve Jobs.
