Disappointing for both atheists and theists

I'm an atheist and am inspired by both Dawkins and Krauss, but this doco was really lame. It was basically just a bunch of excerpts from their speaking engagements interspersed with scenes of audiences clapping set to music.

This was not a good film for putting across the atheist position to believers, but perhaps that wasn't its point. However it was also not entertaining (IMO) for people who are already atheists. It came across as just a lot of back-patting and self-congratulating on how smart we are to not believe in magic.

The whole thing felt like a promotional video advertising Dawkins and Krauss, but instead of going for only a couple of minutes it goes on for over an hour.

If you want to watch either of these two gentlemen with one of your theist friends then just hop over to YouTube and watch one of their many debates in full. You'll have a much deeper and interesting conversation afterwards. If instead you're an insecure atheist who wants to watch over an hour of repeated back-patting on video, then this is your ticket.

After such a long wait from production to release this was a disappointing outcome, and while I appreciate the good intentions of the director, I hope he has other career ambitions outside of film.

I agree. People would be better off just going to youtube and watching some of Krauss and Dawkins's speaking engagements. An episode of the BBC's Big Questions is more thought provoking than this documentary.

i don't think this documentary is meant for (a)theists.
it's meant for doubters.

I completely agree. As a devout atheist it left me profoundly embarrassed. Not for any reason involving Dawkins or Krauss or the celebrities they dragged in to puff the thing up. All those folks are wonderful. I just can't believe what an unhelpful, content-free mess this is. Ignore this waste of time and go watch these guys on YouTube where you actually get to hear what they have to say.

Yes I agree.... Bill Maher documentary was better.

reply

Agreed.

Tiresome pointless film, gave up after 30 mins.

reply

Rubbish...

You captured my sentiment with this sentence "The whole thing felt like a promotional video..."

I was hoping for an interesting and informative doc., but I felt like I was at a seminar with people behind me just waiting to sell me something.

True.

I'm an atheist... I think. Wierd that isn't it. "I think". Isn't that the whole point of being an atheist - "I think" rather than "I'm told". It's not that atheists don't beleive - it's that they don't have "faith".

Quantum Mechanics - everyday quauntum entanglement occuring naturally in nature - makes me question my atheism more than the bible ever did.

Could be that everyone is more "connected" than they think.

“Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Heres Tom with the Weather.”

The "smart" guy doesn't rule anything out.

Rosscosjunk, I think that makes you an agnostic. I doubt god but realize it could exist, so I'm not an atheist. I don't understand atheism any more than religion. None of us know, so why believe in something absolutely?

I'm 10 minutes into the film and disappointed so far. I came here hoping to find that it would get better! Thanks everyone for the YT advice.
