Wow, this was an eye-opening film

This movie made me remember why RGV is my favorite Bollywood director. The Attacks of 26/11 is real, visceral, hard-hitting cinema. Watching innocent people being torn apart by bullets brought it all back - the fear, the dread, and the knowledge that this can always happen again. Great job by RGV, even if his visit to the attack site for filming information was rather tasteless.

Many people compared this movie to Zero Dark Thirty. In my opinion, ZDT was a better film, but not by much. 26/11 comes very close, and RGV makes the action and characters come alive on screen - culminating in a final discussion between Rakesh Maria and Ajmal Kasab on the true nature of Islam, and on the several Muslims who justify violence in its name. What do you all think?

My Rating: 8/10

P.S. Guys, this film has a lower rating than Jab Tak Hai Jaan. This is a problem.

is it uncut, like F bombs, cuss words and Uncut violence, because Bollywood has a problem with censorship

reply

It is completely uncut. One of the most violent films I have ever seen, and full of expletives as well. But none of it was overdone, it was all realistic and gripping.

I don't live in India, I live in London but was dragged along to see this film by some Indian co-workers who insisted I see it - I'm known to truly hate bollywood films. Most films I find that Indians praise turn out to be mediocre or just terrible, it's shocking that anyone could like them. Especially the ones by that ugly Khan idiot.
But this time I can say I was truly amazed! This film was great and is probably the best film I've seen from India for a long time. It reminded me of another film I saw on Channel 4 called Black Friday which was also about a terrorist attack in Mumbai. I guess you guys on here have already seen that one, if you haven't make sure you do.
But this film is a real eye-opener and totally uncompromising in it's depiction of the brutality of the terrorists. It reminded me of the film Munich which also had scenes of violent attacks. This film totally justifies Zero Dark Thirty, while some may question the ethics of the Bin Landen kill, this film will leave you thinking that the US totally did the right thing by illegally entering Pakistan and killing the worlds most wanted terrorist in the place where he slept.

My only gripe was they didn't show the commando operation, that finished off the terrorists. Those who are unfamiliar with this terrorist attack and are looking at it will think that the Indian police was useless as all they got was shot repeatedly. I was following up with the news as it was happening and remember hearing hostage accounts praising the commandos who quite literally saved ther lives. Although the ending was slightly preachy for me it was quite well done and showed the terrorists to be the biggest losers and their ideology to be hateful not to mention downright stupid. It was the right choice to hang "that dog" at the end, they shouldn't have waited so long to do it. The acting, especially from the leads was top-notch.

By why did they have a health warning about cigarettes? DURING the film! That was irritating. I get the message, I don't need to be warned in the film! Looks like the Indian government treats it's people as stupid.

Only 6.6 on IMDB? I guess the Pakistanis are on here giving it a 1, but this film deserves 9/10!

Voters on IMDB actually love the film. It's IMDB's weighting system that is giving a false rating of 6.2. Look at the vote statistics; 50% of all the voters gave the movie a perfect 10/10, and 87% of all the voters gave the film a rating of 7/10 or better. Yet IMDB took the raw mean of 8.4, added extra weight to the negative votes, and artificially pushed the average down to 6.2. And IMDB hasn't done this for any other films; for example, look at Firaaq, another film based on real-life. Only 21% of all the voters gave Firaaq a perfect 10, and yet Firaaq's raw mean of 7.5 was only pushed down to 7.0 by IMDB. Something is wrong here...

At what point do they break out in song and dance ?

...bar is closed people stagger out
the pretty, the crippled, and the proud.

reply

...they don't. And if that was a joke, it was rather poor taste, considering hundreds of people actually died in these attacks.

reply

It was indeed a perfect response to the idiocy that is organised religion, to which we owe such carnage and waste of human life.

Eye-gouging rather than eye-opening. Not the slightest hint of a story, just one killing after another.
