question about the spikes on the gators tails

ok, so the gators had spikes and could throw them at people.
now, I have to admit, I didn't watch the whole movie. someone
had told me about it, and they described it like the spikes came
from the men? cause they had knives??? It didn't make sense to me,
and this co-worker gets plots wrong all the time, so I wanted to
see for myself. I went through the movie a few times, skipping around
but dint find anything out. can anybody tell me if this is true??
thanks

I can't say I studied the hell out of this while watching, but I don't recall anything connecting the spikes to the guys having knives.

reply

Knives had nothing to do with it. The mutated gators had the spikes before the humans started turning into gators.

reply

wait, what? all the mutated gators were humans, the first ones
were the moonshiners. there were like 3 moonshiners, and like
were turned, and one crashed the party and then turned, IIRC.
I'm going to have to watch this again, dammit

No, the first mutated alligators were just gators, results of the tainted moonshine dumped in the swamp. The humans came along later, through bites, and meat-eating.

My god, why do I know this? Help me Jeebus!

Come to think of it, Avery's dad had a gold tooth as a human, and it mutated into a gold gator tooth when he changed. So this theory actually makes more sense than it has any right to.

reply

No, it makes no sense at all. As I mentioned in my review, they give no reason why a gold tooth gets bigger and changes shape when human cells mutate. Gold is gold. Of course, if you try to hold any of these fantasy movies to a scientific light, they just explode.

I definitely wasn't saying that it made sense for a gold tooth to mutate into a gold gator tooth. Because clearly, it's ludicrous. But nobody is watching Ragin' Cajun Redneck Gators for cold, hard science, so you have to just go with it.

What I was saying was, the internal logic the movie sets up with the gold gator tooth means that the theory about the tail spikes being knives originally holds water, to a degree.

But as you pointed out, the first RCRGs were just mutated gators(not were-gators) and they also had tail spikes, so the theory is still false.
