Sexist

Our hero stalks the strong female and later tells her she is a female and hence must look beautiful proceeded by a musical number where they have sex . It was distasteful.

As you can see, it has been 20 hours to your post and no one cares to comment over this. Welcome to India sir.

Hey Id**T what India has to do with no reply to someone's post on IMDB. Are you moron ??

Anyway I agree with OP.

reply

"Hey Id**T"

Haha seriously! You don't need two "**" for writing an frigging IDIOT.

"what India has to do with no reply to someone's post on IMDB"

Yeah, I know I am generalizing but here's the fact, when same thing had happened in foreign flick their would have been lots of discussion about it, but when a movie in such a big global platform makes the actresses looks stupid it really end up reflecting how women in India are being showcased.

"Are you moron ??"

Well, you are the one who is putting two question marks after the completion of sentence, so you know...

There are plenty of Hollywood movies which show similar scenes. Perhaps you have never heard of the famous "Don Juan" type of male hero, who behaves in this way. That type of behaviour has been shown in so many movies that "Don Juan" has become a categorical phrase used to describe male heroes who behave this way. The "Don Juan" hero has been done many times, and you are only unaware of it if you are born yesterday. I'm pretty sure that the scene between Shivudu and Avanthika is far tamer than just about any other Don Juan scene from other movies. So it's rather odd to see this movie singled out for criticism over others.

As an Indian, I find it frustratingly sad.

Yes its sexist. More pathetic is hero save life of warrior lady.

I remember Avatar climax where female lead actress saves life of hero.

May be film maker still afraid to show female actress take lead and can save hero.

Romance was quick in Bahubali After 1 meeting. In that sense yes we can compare movie with hollywood standards as actresses get laid with actors quickly in western movies ;-)

reply

She was portrayed as a strong warrior initially, then she seemed to forget all her skills after having sex with the hero by getting captured so easily.

Check out my thread on Sexism. Everything will make sense.

Plus I want your opinion on Bollywood item numbers vs Tollywood item numbers.

reply

It was sad.

I can't believe people are defending that scene.

Next you'll be telling me that Snow White is racist, or that the Smurfs are a glorification of communism. I can't believe that some people are suffering heartburn over what was clearly a light-hearted scene. Holy Political Correctness, Batman!

Ever seen Superman-II when Clark Kent / Superman lets Lois Lane almost drown at Niagara Falls? Will you call that wife abuse? Give me a break - it was a comical scene! Have you ever seen another famous movie called American Pie?

Non-Indians who've watched this film certainly aren't reacting the way you are. Only a certain narrow subset of Indians seem to be suffering weird hangups on this movie. And we all know how contorted Indian morality has become by politics.

reply

Those films don't spell out the blatant sexism with words
"I am a Man, you're a woman"
The whole thematic idea of being supposed to look beautiful and do make-up instead of being a fighter is distasteful.
People being okay with the scene is definitely a result of the Patriarchal society we live in.

I would have been a whole lot of okay with the scene if he hadn't muttered the "I am a Man, you're a woman" line and if they had cut out the scene where she looks at her reflection of her beauty with make-up accidentally applied during the stripping, looking like she found the meaning of life.
It could have been written better as to not seem sexist.

I actually like the film but this whole plot progression is my main gripe with the film.

Bogus - it was a mischievous light-hearted moment. You can hear it in the musical overtones. You're reading too much into it, Dr Freud.

Are you going to pretend to me that Bollywood actresses don't wear make-up and wear revealing clothing? What's the director trying to say other than "You are a woman"? I don't see that Bollywood is more advanced in the portrayal of women.

Anybody remember Dhoom 3? What exactly was Katrina's purpose in that movie? This:

You're telling me that's some progressive depiction of women? Uhh, because all women go around stroking their bodies and writhing all the time - according to Bollywood, anyway.
I guess you've never been outside of India, because this is what you'd see at a strip bar. But in India, instead of going to a strip bar, the same people just go to the movies instead.

Don't try and engage in ridiculous hair-splitting arguments. It's very obvious what tastes Bollywood filmmakers are trying to cater to. I see no moral superiority there.

reply

And Dhoom 3 is one of the worst film I've ever seen, so that comparison doesn't do you any favours.
Never said Bollywood is better, I am no Bollywood fan.

I can't believe you have a problem with such an innocent scene, LOL.

Please excuse the rest of the world if we don't bow down to your SJW Western stupidity.
The scene was wonderful, Mr Sensitive.

reply

worse part of the movie imo. Not only was it distasteful but it was corny and lazy. This is essentially when I lost all hope for this being a serviceable movie.

reply

That was for Typical Telugu and Regular Indian Audience!
