Same here: never really watched Bollywood. I'd say it is nice and entertaining, the singing and dancing isn't too dominant and it has nice colours and a slightly different approach to the "epic". That said films about epic stuff rarely cut it and this one dips into that pool way too much as well. It is overdrawn and glossy in the extreme and could be considered reminiscent of a crossing between Troy and Cinderella. Good and evil stand in stark contrast, we are supposed to "ooh" and "aah" at all the glorious moments, while really I simply had to smirk.
Well: it's not like I hadn't watched a dozen altogether flat "epic" hollywood productions for pure entertainment and a laugh - why not this one? I liked it. It has a different way of telling its story which bestranged me at times and appeared somewhat absurd to me. That's good! It may give us an impression of bollywood story telling I imagine, if heavily influenced by hollywood titles. In the end the average hollywood film is just as absurd, only that we no longer notice, being used to that specific kind of absurdities whereas this one is different.
Although nowhere near "my new favourite film" still worth the watch for me ;)
