Characters you wish were included on the show

I loved the show and was sad to see it go. There are several characters I wish could have been included and I was curious if others had some as well.

Phantom of the Opera would have been really cool. Not that almost one we had with the cop that was scarred from Ethan. Maybe the gang visits an opera house nearby and are able to recruit him or rescue Vanessa from his advances?

I had hoped to hear about Ferdinand Lyle encountering or having something to do with the reincarnation of the Mummy.

Those were my big two! Anyone else?

They should have had Jack the Ripper but then Ethan pulls off his mask and we see it's old man Hubert Cumberdale, the Orphanage janitor. He's all like "And I would indeed have emerged victorious, if it were not for you meddlesome rapscallions!"

Then the give Ethan a scooby snack and ride off in Ye Olde Mystery Carriage.

Was the sarcasm needed? I was trying to get a conversation going?

reply

I'm actually honestly sorry if it came off sarcastic, or seemed like I was mocking you. I really was just going for funny / stupid.

(Stupid as in me being stupid, not you.)

To seriously answer I've actually asked myself the same question, but they've packed the show so full the only thing I've come up with is the Mummy. Well...I also thought The Creature From the Black Lagoon...which is more stupid than my pretending to be stupid answer.

Hey thanks for clarifying. There's always so many people online trying to troll that I jumped to conclusions. I'm sorry as well for doing that.

You know it's funny, I was thinking Creature as well, but couldn't think of a viable way they'd bring him in. We already have the tragic John Clare, so unless Creature was some sort of monster sent by Dracula I don't know how else they'd do it.

I was disappointed they did nothing with Van Helsing other than off him quickly.

In the back of my mind, I thought they were going to allude to Sir Malcolm having some sort of alias while in Africa and it would turn out he was really Allan Quatermain or Quatermain had led the expedition that Sir Malcolm went on where his son died.

You and me both. I got all excited when I realized it was David Warner, (I'm embarrassed to admit that a big part of the surprise was because I thought he was dead) and then *poof* no more David Warner.

I actually never really warmed up that much to John Claire despite all the following effort to make him sympathetic because of that.

Has the show continued, there are a lot of potential characters that could have been incorporarated....further development of Jekyl/Hyde, Dr. Moreau, Invisible Man, Jack the Ripper, Sherlock Holmes, Sweeney Todd.

I think a boys club with Dr. Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyl and Dr. Moreau would have been cool.

One or two cameos of Sherlock Holmes aiding the police in investigating some gruesome crimes scenes, like the murder of the Putleys in the Wax Museum or something linked to the presumed Jack the Ripper or disappearing persons not yet linked to Sweeney Todd might have been cool too.

reply

I actually read somewhere, but can't remember the source, that they wanted to have Dr. Moreau in there, but could not get the rights.

That would've been so cool to see what type of devious experiment Frankenstein, Jekyll and Moreau would come up with. Wow, that is an insanely cool idea.

reply

Van Helsing for starters. Also, Jekyll could have actually had a story rather than just being another Doctor.

Van Helsing made an appearance in season one and was subsequently killed off by John Clare. Dr. Jekyll started out promising, being one of the most creative takes on the character I've ever seen complete with an interesting backstory that they could have delved further into, but after episode two he also began to fade into the background.

reply

Yeah, I got excited when I saw David Warner, one of my favorite British actors. Great voice! When I learned what character he was, I thought, "Great, VanHelsing will fit well in here". Then, before you know it...

Some Poe or Holmes characters : Hound of the Baskervilles, Masque of Red Death, Roderick Usher.

reply

They pretty much told his story with John Clare but perhaps the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Captain Nemo would have been fun as a cameo.

reply

Jonathan Harker Made zero sense he never appeared to look for Mina.

reply

He is rather bland character on his own, no special powers or talents, and him looking for Mina would have contributed very little to the show, while adding an extra character who would do quite little and just occupy space. He is basically just another relative to Mina who would have been looking for her, but they already covered this ground with Mina's father and his angst over finding his daughter and of course she was Vanessa's best friend and they explored Vanessa's pain and guilt over losing Mina quite well. How many relatives-friends of Mina do you need to look for her? Two are quite enough.
