Women with Short hair in 1890s??

The set designs are great but then they do these weird thing where women have modern short hair of today. Like the women fencing or Frankensteins creation, .. Ruins the effects. People would be mortified if they saw a women with what would be a called , a mans hair cut. Just doesn't fit in with this period. Or the therapist women in an Art Deco room and black short hair. The historian in me is mortified. Lol
