Why? (spoiler)

Why when Aaron realised the bad guys had kidnapped his mum, did he not just phone the police?

Watched this last night and that was exactly what I said! It was certainly a stupid idea to give themselves up as it was clear where that would be heading. Maybe they thought involving the police might then implicate the girl in her brother's accidental death, but it was supremely naïve to think that doing anything other than calling the police would be a good idea.

reply

They only needed to call anonymously, and say that they had seen men forcing their way into a house. They may have had weapons.

The police would have had to respond.

i can think of two reasons:

1. zaheer was dead. although it was self defense anyone would be stressed in such a scenario and would want to wrap things up internally without any police interference. moreover the simplest solution to avoid any further conflict with laila's dad would be to giver her back to the family.

2. if you are familiar with indian/pakistani culture you would be amazed to see how many things go unreported just because people think it would hamper their public status and pride. calling the police would be a strict no no for laila and aron might have thought about it.

1) ( the simplest solution to avoid any further conflict with laila's dad would be to giver her back to the family.)

But she didn't want to go back. And going back could potentially endanger her life.

2) (calling the police would be a strict no no for laila and aron might have thought about it.)

I can understand your reply from laila's point of view, but Aron must realise his mum is in potentially serious danger. An anonymous call would not reveal laila's involvement in Zaheer's death and could save his mums life.

you are forgetting the fact that those guys were hardened criminals. and reporting against them would have meant even more dire consequences for aron's mom.
You need to put yourself in their's shoes in that scenario and think like them. If you get a call from a kidnapper do you inform the police instantly?

Moreover Laila, though afraid, had developed a guilty conscience and thats the reason she herself suggested to return. Her brother's death meant that she would have been on the run for her entire life and giving up would be a straight forward solution for anyone in that situation.

reply

We see things differently, but I can understand your point of view.
