Trying SO hard 2 make a movie Str8 guys would watch.

We're watching a series of movies that centers almost entirely around professional competitive dancing and as far as I can remember there isn't one instance of a gay relationship anywhere in site. NO gay guys in a dance movie that has scenes at a fashion shoot, LA nightclubs and a Hair Salon? The next Time I make a movie about the disgusting treatment of slaves in American History I'm going to cast white people in all the roles! Everytime guys dance right after we gotta get a scene of them kissing a girl. One dancer that had taken a job instructing elderly ladies, wants to join the Dance Crew and actually utters the line.... Sure I dance for these ladies but the 'chicks' dig it.

I love these movies still, I really do but I'm slapped in the face about every 5 minutes with a reminder for me and I'm assuming the 3 or 4 straight men in the theater watching that they are INDEED watching str8 people dance cause everybody knows that watching anything in the realm of artistic like dancing will make you gay if you are watching a gay man perform it. Shhh, that's how we convert you.

Honestly I have no idea who these movies are for... The dancing, music, Bell Biv Devo clothing style and sexy guys says gay men and women but the script and constant verbal call outs of "I'm Heterosexual" says something different and it comes close to just being insulting maybe even homophobic.

Real lines..... There's a bed up stairs if you want to go check it out... Followed right before by another male character calling his girl at home and telling her he loves her. And these reminders happen like every 5 mins. You could make a drinking game out of it. Watch it again through this tint I colored the movie and tell me I'm wrong.

Furthermore, look I like practically love dancing but this 'popping" stuff and spinning on your back is so tired. We've been seeing these same street moves for about a decade now and I think it's time to move on. Come up with moves that aren't carbon copies of the tired worn out moves Michael Jackson did for the final 15 years of his career.

Thank You. awesome response! This latest installment is definitely my last one. In the future perhaps they could be as concerned about the acting and script.

Fyi the last time I saw one of these at a theater it was full of groups of girls and groups of girly guys (me included) so maybe that why now they're practically going straight to video.

It 2014 everybody is used to seeing gay guys in entertainment. My goodness watch How to get away with Murder, I'm gay and even I blushed at seeing the Gay sex scenes like I was watching it with my ultra conservative grandmother.

LOL Nice post. I know exactly what you mean. However, as a straight person, I could totally tell most of the dancers are gay and I don't care. Also, I'm not ashamed to admit to everyone I know that I like these movies quite a bit and yes, they are pretty gay movies. They've got awesome dance numbers in them!
It really is too bad the writers/producers won't create an openly gay character. It's pretty unrealistic. I'm afraid the reason is that, despite the director of the movie probably being gay, the producer probably isn't and might even be homophobic and refuses to produce a gay movie. The irony there is killer. The producer is also probably aiming for a straight high school male and female demographic, what with all the movies containing a scene that focuses on the female leads' sexually suggestive dances that are more provocative than progressive.
One of my main gripes with the franchise has always been that the story just gets worse and worse as the choreography gets more and more over the top with props and gimmickry. I think Step Up 2 had the best balance. I really wish they would make a sequel that gets back to the roots, but that probably won't happen.
Anyway, back on topic; I think it would be great if they make a movie in which the male lead is gay and he and the female lead can't stand each other, but agree to work together for the sake of whatever competition their crew is in.

You have a good point in here somewhere, but really...this is Step Up. It's not that serious. Certainly not serious enough to compare to movies about slavery.

Stop! Manners time.
