Didn't Jason work and live as a part of the crew to which the Santiago Twins, Moose, Gauge and that robot guy belong to in the 3rd Step Up Film ?
How come they never acknowledge it in this movie...
They made it appear as if he always belonged only to The Mob.
Even when they meet at Caesar's Palace for the first time he fought with Sean but didn't acknowledge the rest of them...!!
What am I missing here ??
Yes he did and left that crew when they broke up to become part of the mob when he moved to Miami. Except for Gauge. He was not in that crew. Or any crew. He's never been in any of the previous movies and this is the only time the actor playing him (Cyrus "Glitch" Spencer) has been in a movie role. He was a contestant on So You Think You Can Dance TV series where the guy who played Jason (Stephen "Twitch" Boss) was a judge and "Hair" (played by Christopher Scott) also worked on the show as a choreographer. They don't acknowledge Jason's previous connections with other dances because:
A: he has a minor role.
B: Not much time.
C: The writing could barely manage the main story let alone try to fit in a big backstory for him. Without the story and leaving it as a passing acknowledgement of each other would leave some audience confused if they didn't watch Step Up 3.
D: It's not important to the story in any way and would only break up pacing however handled so you could just imagine some scenes in your head and put them somewhere - not all events have to happen on screen.
Could also just be an oversight by writers. Let's face it we don't watch dance movies for the consistency and high quality story writing - we watch it for the dancing and some background context to move things along.

I know I shouldn't be that nitpicky about the continuity of a dance movie, but they've generally paid a lot of attention to characters returning from previous films (e.g., the MSA Crew). Jason was a standout performer from part 3, so it was weird that they would bring him back with the same name but act as if he was a different character.
