Detective as the Devil in the opening scene?

Does anyone involved with the film know why the opening scene's Devil part was cut. It doesn't seem to make sense why she is suddenly singing then notices something and runs off. Would have worked a lot better if they'd used the shots they filmed with the detective made up as the devil creeping towards her through the crowd? Was there hair in the gate or something on those takes lol.
