Enjoyed Very Much and An Observation

I was really touched by this film, but as someone who's visited Tennessee several times (and loves it there) I felt it was odd that none of the characters spoke with a southern accent. Granted, the primaries may have been transplants, but no one at the bank or restaurants, etc...?

Just an observation.

reply

agreed
why set a movie in the South if you don't use the accents and culture

reply

It was shot there for the tax incentive. City never mentioned.

reply

... If the city was never mentioned, how does everyone know where it was filmed?

There was a fair amount of press around the film when it released that mentioned the filming location.

But other than that, the location doesn't play into the story at all, so irrelevant if the city is named or if southern accents / culture are included.

reply

Yes, that was the point I was going to make, just because it was filmed in Tennessee doesn't necessarily mean it took place there.

reply

I'm thinking that Tennessee may be part of the name of the bank where Robin Williams works. My observation came from within the movie, not the credits.

reply

I was surprised to learn this was filmed in Tennessee in the credits, because it sure doesn't sound like it.

reply

I'm pretty certain it's noted somewhere in the movie. I didn't watch the credits.

reply

An odd thing about the credits is that "In Loving Memory of Robin Williams and Gary Gardner" came at the very end of the credits roll than at the beginning. Whoever worked on the credits must have felt RW's passing wasn't that important to mention at the start of it.

Btw, Mr. Gardner played Nolan's father.

RIP.

reply

They always put the dedication at the end. It's better there because then the audience has seen the work being honored.

reply

It's not mentioned.

reply

I'm glad you enjoyed the film. I am the writer. Although we shot it in Tennessee, the location is never mentioned. It was shot there for tax incentive reasons.

reply

Thanks so much for your reply. I really loved your film.
