good show except for the religious stuff

Well done except the religious quotes come off goofy and seem out of place Good characters except for the preacher and he tries to be unobtrusive but it breaks the shows flow and his lines don't go with the circumstances.

How is Parker Posey in the show? Does she has any good stuff to work with?

reply

Parker Posey is not in the show until season 3. Her character is a bit of a kooky oddball as is often the case for her.

I really like this show.

I like that this show is produced independently and doesn't have to answer to anyone, even Neilsen Ratings. Its great show and the writers and directors can take it in any direction that they like.

And the show is reflecting an era where church was a pivotal part of the community--it was the one place where everyone came together.

Nope, it was good. The religious proselytizing didn't fit in.

Hey Dissenting,

I agree with your ideas completely, and while I was reared in the same Lutheran Church In which I was married, I am not what one would consider a religious person. Having said that much, however, I would also like to point out how refreshing it is to see a show which does not heap gratuitous violence, sex, and bad language on me to the point of mind numbing boredom.

The show seems to be a little bit too "young" for me, perhaps a bit too much like my Hardy Boys days, but I have become invested in the characters, and I look forward to see what is happening with them. It is also nice to be transported back to the days of my youth where I recognize some of my neighbors and relatives in the Granite Flats folks.

Religious stuff? Not at all. Just because someone is shown praying in a scene, that is not proselytizing; it is simply a representation of what some folks do. I am now into the second season, and I continue to find the show interesting and fun.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

Seems like the right amount of religion for a small military town in the late 50s early 60s.

fact: 87.3% of IMDB users belong to the secret society of cynics.

reply

Exactly. "Those godless commies" came to be a joke, but was once how they were actually seen as a rejection of Good. It wasn't long ago that believing in God was normal.
