They slice up their own children, beat each other....for what?

The possibility that they might be healed (nowadays) of the flu or pneumonia?!

Everyone washes their laundry in the RIVER....lives in trailer parks, cuts up roadkill for supper?
I don't see anyone not aging or looking gorgeous.

There's a bunch of shows about swamp people - that's just their culture and lifestyle.

These people weren't trading prosperous lives to have a relationship with the pit. They would be hillbillys regardless.
