Ok let me get this straight

Leatherface aka Jackson/Jeb throughout the beginning of the movie and through the middle seems to be a normal caring guy who talks and knows right from wrong. But then as soon as Bub dies he just instantly turns batshit insane smacking his head and going full on psycho.

Then after being shot, all at once he turns into a mute hunchback walking chainsaw wielding maniac willing to kill anyone, the girl he cared so much about the entire movie he just cuts her head off. He just went from point A to point Z in like 20 minutes as a character.

It just didn't make sense to me and the backstory didn't match up at all to the Leatherface we see in the 1974 movie. In that movie Leatherface is clearly a mentally challenged psycho with the mind of a child almost. Yet in this movie throughout the film he's a normal acting a teenager.

I know he gets shot in the face near the end and his friend died but i just didn't buy that instant transformation into Leatherface that damn fast after seeing him as this normal guy the last hour of the movie.

Now the fat retarded mute Bub, THATS how you'd picture Leatherface from the 1974 movie being as a teenager. Not that skinny handsome caring dude we saw through the whole movie.

I had the same thoughts to be honest.
I guess they wanted a big twist and that was all they could think of.
Even though it doesn't really work.

reply

Yeah thats all they was thinking about was doing some big twist where we wouldn't see it coming, regardless if it made sense or not.

"Oh they'll never think that skinny handsome teenager who's nice and caring would ever be Leatherface, we'll put some big fat mentally retarded giant in the group to throw them off even more so they'll think he's Leatherface!"

Its just dumb, they built this entire movie around trying to fool the audience as to who Leatherface was, they put no effort into actually trying to have anything make sense when connecting to the original movie.

Seriously. And what a waste of Hodor. How do you cast a kid that size, make him act like Thomas Hewitt, and then not capitalize on it? What a shit twist. Forced and amateur. Didn't make a lick of fucking sense. How did this shit get greenlit? Who runs these studios? This origin story was a hundred times worse than my previous letdown origin story being Alien Covenant. This was barely high school grade horror.

Yeah. Super dumb! It’s a shame because the technical talent was there to make a really good movie. IMO, it was the script that failed this movie.

IMO, this is the strangest case where I felt that the director and cinematographer played it as well as they could have, but the script failed them.

The movie looks really good, and you can tell that there was real technical effort thrown into it, but the script feels very half-hearted- Like the people behind the camera were trying super hard to make a shit script look good.

Personally, I hated the script, but really appreciate the talent behind the camera, and hope they have the opportunity to kick ass on a better project.
