Read the Graphic Novel, Skip the Movie

The graphic novel is great, it's a tighter story with exceptional artwork and character designs, I just love the Superman I + II film references including the Christopher Reeve Margot Kidder designs. It's only 5 issues long so it's a quick read, the film even changed some parts of the story I thought were better in the comics. Ok I don't really mean to say skip the movie, but reading the comics in conjunction with the film makes you appreciate it alot more. I don't really enjoy Superman stories a whole lot but this one might be my favorite all time.

Yeah I read Superman/Brainiac and then saw Unbound 2 days later.

Wow that was a mistake. The book was amazing. If you compare Unbound to it Unbound is a HUGE letdown.

If I saw Unbound without having read the graphic novel I probably would have enjoyed it more...but instead I just saw wasted oppertunity.

I'll pick it up, but only if Kara/Supergirl is in it. She was the star of the movie.

She stole nearly every scene she was in in the comic; plus she and Superman have a great little exchange about fear and courage later on in the story.

The character design in the movie and the art of Gary Frank in the comic book can't even be compared.

My question is: the comic was great mostly due to the art (Geoff Johns writing is good, nothing amazing) ... why adapt it with such lacklustre character design? The writing isn't going to carry the cartoon!
