8.5?!!! WTF?!!

Theres a BLACK GUY in this, clearly this should be a 2.1.

IMDB voters are slipping.

"We gotta get even with those Socs! Let's do it for Johnny, man. We'll do it for Johnny!"

reply

I was just coming to post the same thing. I dare anyone else to refute the clear prejudice of predominantly black movies on IMDB.

Just click on a random black movie and it'll be well below a 4 or 5 regardless how good it was.

I'm actually thinking about writing a paper or something about this, just so people can see that prejudice and racisim have a new home on the Internet.

Don't write a paper 'or something', on this it's silly. Kevin Hart has a following, and a show on Comedy Central. Actually, I had no idea who he was until my Caucasian and Hispanic friends told me about him. They think he's funny.

Films featuring African Americans run the spectrum of decades, some are excellent, while some are just as horrific as those films featuring Caucasians, Hispanics, Asians, etc. A bad film is a bad film regardless of who is in it.

However, there are those people who have hate in their hearts, and want to downgrade anything that isn't what they think how their world should be. Or are jealous that others worked their way into something they deem exceptional because their egos feel that only they should have it all will mis-score films on IMDb and elsewhere thinking they've done the world a service, when all they've done was show folks how gosh awful of an individual they are.

If you're going to write a paper, write one about how people live under a rock and see things only in race or ethnic overtones and miss how great the world really is when it is diverse.

No H8 Zone, please!!

reply

No I'd rather go with my original idea, thank you anyways

It's disgusting and sad, isn't it?

reply

It wouldn't have anything to do with "black" movies having overwhelming anti-white, anti-gay, basically anti-everything but black messaging?

There are a few very clever, funny black comedians who don;t do the droll "black great - white lame" routine.

I think most people find racist, misogynistic, anti-gay humor not funny, hence the low ratings.

reply

If that's what you want to believe then great. I think it's naive to think that racism and prejudice have nothing to do with these ratings. However I'm not saying you are completely wrong, I do believe there are people who subscribe to what you said in your post (all ethnicities).

That still doesn't take from the fact that any predominantly black movie on imdb has ratings below a 5 for no reason. Find 10 predominantly black movies that are over a 7.5 and I'll recant everything I've said.

Also don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to step on anyones toes. I'm also not angry at anyone. However it seems the Internet racists get annoyed when people point out the obvious hatred being pushed onto us covertly on these threads.

---

Also, as for your "anti-white" comment. I'll go as far to say it's not all hatred. Do you really think a people who have been and still are being oppressed won't harbor any sort of anger towards the oppressing people?

I for one don't harbor any grudges against anyone, but I can understand the feelings behind it.

You say black movies have "anti-everything but black message". Please name one movie that fits this category. There are loads of movies that aren't black that have these sort of messages but are praised. Take "The Departed" for instance, praised left and right but sends loads of "anti" messages.

I do think the whack ass IMDb rating system is lame. More likely the voters are a majority caucasian film snobs who feel they have to put down anythig that isnt predominantly white because they can't stand to see blacks and other minorities do what they've done in their films for decades, marginalize their participation and exsistance.

reply

No, it has more to do with "black" films being chock full of every stereotype that whites are accused of "perpetuating" while in fact the vast majority of whites in America bend over backwards to avoid even a hint doing so.

The double standard has turned into a financial and political gold mine for blacks in America. They can wail endlessly about "racism" and "stereotyping" when they are the ones flooding our culture with the same "negative stereotypes".

Here's a very appropriate analogy.

Go look at the ratings for the old "Ernest Goes...." movies. You'll probably find them rated as low (or lower) than "black movies".

Why?

Because they focus on a very narrow stereotype of a subculture (redneck) that appeals to a small % of the population.

Because black culture/entertainment is driven almost exclusively by hip-hop, it's the same thing.

Hip-hop is basically urban redneck.

Don't think so?

Take any negative stereotype/image of rednecks and I guarantee you I can map an almost exact duplicate in hip-hop culture.

When "black" entertainers start focusing on being just entertainers, then you will a change. Until then there's too much easy money for them to do otherwise.

Your analysis is flawed. Explain Apatow, Sandler and Rogen films ratings and why they're so high.

reply

I can't explain how Rogen continues to get work and why people pay to see his films. I can only guess that there's a huge target market of fat loser guys that his films appeal to.

Sandler is an entirely different genre. He appeals to the juvenile "fart" humor audience, which is always replenishing itself.

I don't think any of your examples provide a "stereotype" of white culture. By its nature, "white" culture in America is an always morphing, taking bits and pieces from other group, i.e the melting pot theory.

Racism is alive and well. It will be until the day we all look the same... This surprises you??? And the guy just isn't funny IMO. Gave It a 1.

to each his own.

i thought the movie sucked. i thought i was going to be ROFL
but i barely got a laugh or two through out the whole thing.

I even predicted the "FIRE" when he coudln't stop laughing at himself.

I just feel hes over hyped and that a younger generation needs their comedians to relate to bc guys like chapelle, chris rock, and etc are past their time.

i'm 32 but i felt like i heard a variation of his jokes from previous comedians.
sometimes i felt like he just made up his joke stories.

reply

Sandler films arent that much diffrent from the Ernest films you used for your example. Same goes for Rogen and Apatow. But most would be pissed if they were called "Jewsploitation" comedies.

When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.

The color purple: 7.6, Friday:7.1, Hotel Rowanda: 8.2, Hustle and Flow: 7.3, Boyz n the Hood: 7.7, Ray: 7.7, Menace to Society: 7.4, Do the right thing: 7.8 etc... Your statement has no basis in fact.

reply

And also Kevin hart's other stand up movies have gotten over a 7 in rating. So, yeahhhh. Hush.
