That landscape is unmistakable. Looks like the Western Cape area.

According to this interview with Matthew, he says the Texas scenes were filmed in Johannesburg.

That's possible, the Western Cape is generally greener and lusher than further up north, but I figured they filmed within the Karoo which is much dryer as its inland.
Don't bother with Texas - it is utterly unattractive and full of religious and political nutcases :-)
I'd go back to the Western Cape in a heartbeat, though - and hopefully will one day! My best friend lives there <3
You should! It's my favourite place in the world. Cape Town is gorgeous.
I plan on doing a drive along the southern coast this summer. Can't wait!
