Why the overly antichristian message in the final movie?

Ive seen all 6 movies and I was quite surprised that the last one suddenly had all this negative christian messages that was never seen in any of the other movies (or the games). Has Paul W. Anderson suddenly had some kind of new atheist awakening?

I mean you have a villain who made an earlier appearance where he was not some kind of evil preacher. Now he has crosses all over the place. A knife with scripture quotes etc.

I also noticed that the negative character on Alice´s team was called Christian too... Talk about on the nose anti-christian messages.

I dont understand why?
