1-5 were good; this was not

This film took a huge dip in quality within the franchise (and this franchise wasnt known for its quality in the first place!!). Maybe it was the change in location, the new crew, the multiple accidents on set, the delays....but something was truly wrong with this film!!!

Your opinion is invalid. This movie is so much better than Retribution and even Apocalypse. Did you even finish the movie? Or did you laugh at Alice's iconic sacrifice?

reply

How is it invalid? It's an opinion. It's neither correct or incorrect.

I happen to agree fully, and think it the weakest film in the franchise by a huge margin.

You think it's better than Retribution and Apocalypse. That's fine too.

No need to get shirty with people for expressing their opinion.

reply

terrorfirmer-ie and Mother,

both you guys are true fcking idiots. Did you even watch The Final Chapter? Retribution and Apocalypse freakin PALE in comparison to The Final Chapter. Especially after Iain Glen's performance as Dr. Isaacs. This one EASILY ranks right up there as one of the BEST in the series.

What the fck were you two watching???

reply

Retribution is the worst. Look at dear Barry. Look at the way he died. Hilarious.

This one is little better.

Effective trolling is art.

reply

I put retribution over this as this film was void of emotion. at least the last one had that alice and becky relationship and the returning characters made me feel something!

1-3 felt connected and 4-5 felt connected. this one tried to connect all 6 and it failed in my opinion!

I don't understand how anyone can say Apocalypse and Retribution are worsen compared to this pile of crap.

-Soundtracks in those films were memorable as hell.

-Nemesis scenes were cool. Not scary but cool. His awakening and that soundtrack that first plays.

-Actors who played Jill and Carlos were cool and delivered memorable fun performances that made us care about their characters.

-The recreation of the street battle from RE3 is actually done well compared to that slow motion crap fight from Afterlife. THAT IS HOW YOU RECREATE A SCENE but still add your personal touches to it.

-Mike Epps was actually funny and provided great comic relief.

-Major Cain was a awesome asshore villain. The Ending was so unpredictable and unexpected and set so much up. Then we got Extinction.

-Editing in Apocalypse is actually good. The only times it sucks are mostly the Nemesis fight at the end where there are a lot of fast close ups including the Graveyard fight but the rest of the action sequences are done really well. Street Battle, Carlos jumping out that helicopter, Lickers Church Scene, Nemesis wiping out the STARS, Dog School Sequence, Alice rappelling down the building and kicking ass and the final fight against Umbrella.

-Both films are fast paced and don't drag and still deliver entertaining action and decent sequences.

-Retribution has that great Opening Song.

-Barry's death is awesome. That Script I just read made his death pointless. In the film its more heroic and has a callback for the fans. Plus Kevin as Barry was likeable as hell.

-The Uber Licker. Seriously, why the hell are the special effects so much better done in this film then the final chapter when it comes to the monsters?

-The Alice and Becky scenes are done really well especially with the fact that Becky is deaf. Makes it emotional.

-Editing doesn't piss people off and come off like someone have a heart attack.

-The Alice vs Jill fight was hyped up like hell and delivered for the most part.

-Ending Shot was godly. Then TFC came out and crapped all over those expectations.

Now for negatives. I got nothing bad to say about Apocalypse. As for Retribution…

-Cuts a few important scenes that contain possible important dialogue that would have helped set this movie up better when it comes to the overall big twist.

-Leon is a douche.

-Carlos Clone is wasted.

-Needed more story and answers.

-Red Queen should NOT have been in this film.

Totally agree. It really bothers me that Paul wrote all the movies, and managed to go from strong, enjoyable coherent storytelling to absurd, empty nonsense that contradicts itself.

His big mistake was the direction of extinction. Film number 3 should have been set in the aftermath of Raccoon City where the rest of the world was not infected, but Umbrella were still up to no good in other areas and Alice wants to take them down.

I find it hard to understand how people thing The Final Chapter is the best/one of the best. It's their opinion and they're entitled to it but...it's a hard position for me to understand.

Iain Glen's performance is the only real stand out thing for me.

The Final Chapter is almost like a continuation from Extinction and don't really take much from 4 and 5 at all.

I think there is another film waiting to be told that explains Wesker's lack of powers (he was a clone or the real human Wesker, but one remains) and the end of the T-virus and Umbrella (even if Wesker is really dead and that was just a stupid, lame plot hole, there are still umbrella forces around the world alive)

reply

One and two were excellent. Five sucked. I'm trying to remember if it was three that was decent and four that sucked or vice versa. The one with the prison break guy sucked.

reply

Yeah that was four. It sucked balls. Extinction, retrospectively, is actually quite OK but at the time I was disappointed with the post apocalyptic mad max direction it took - when the franchise started sliding majorly badly towards the abomination that is The Final Chapter.

Should've stayed grounded in the real world where Umbrella were covering their tracks in the aftermath of Raccoon City and up to no good elsewhere, and Alice is working to take them down.

reply

terrorfirmer-ie,

you seriously like Afterlife and Retribution more than The Final Chapter?

Please tell me you're joking!!

reply

No, I'm not joking. I think The Final Chapter is a terrible film, a terrible sequel, and a terrible ending.

Everything from the absurd storyline (even by RE standards), to the plot holes, to the editing, is massively sub standard.

I really disliked Afterlife. Thought Retribution was better but still bad albeit both in a watchable way. Don't confuse me with thinking that they're good films either on their own, or as Resident Evil films.

I honestly expected The Final Chapter to be a big improvement. It wouldn't have been hard. But I was left speechless by what Paul WS Anderson did to it.

So yes, I think Final Chapter is hands down the worst of them. For me, rating on my enjoyment and as for what they are:

RE 2002: 9/10
RE: Apocalypse 8/10
RE: Extinction 6/10
RE: Afterlife 5/10
RE: Retribution 6/10
RE: The Final Chapter 3/10

I only give it 3/10 because Iain Glen is brilliant and Milla is just Milla and is always great - but I HATED everything else about the film. Storyline, direction, plot, inconsistencies, horrible editing, etc.
