The Voice

Just does not do the trick. I can get past the racist POS that says he would never hire a white person,
But I cannot get past the voice. I know Rod Serling is dead but they couldhave come close.

Anyone with something distinctive in theor voice.

Other than that it was pretty meh.

The man who is half white and is married to a white woman is racist? I blame this on the media. Once again they do what they do best by misleading, misguiding and misinterpreting what people said. By running the headline that he will never hire a white person which is a snippet of what he said, isn't totally factual. He hired white people in his first movie but he doesn't want to use them as leads.

reply

I'm sure the quote was taken out of context, but it still smacks of racism. How do you know? Just reverse the situation. Imagine a young white director saying he would never hire a black lead. Rome would burn to the ground with mob outrage.

reply

All the proud racist black men take white women for wives. Doesn't make them less racist, it actually makes them more so, not to mention hypocritical.

reply

He's half white

reply

That still doesn't stop them from being racist though.

reply

He looks more black than white so I'm sure he identifies as black even though one of his parents were white.

reply

So was Obama, but he always conveniently forgot that.

reply

So from your post I have gathered that you do not believe a half black man can be racist nor can a black man married to a white woman be racist.

By extension, A half white man cannot be racist and nor can a white man be racist as long as he is married to a black woman.

And, you think that it is NOT racist to refuse to hire someone for a non-skin color specific role simply because of the color of their skin.

Interesting take you have there.

reply

Poor white people, we only got 99% of leading roles throughout history. If only some brave artist would pay attention to our struggles

reply

In African cinema, blacks get 100% of the leading roles. In Chinese cinema, Chinese get 100% of the leading roles. In Japanese cinema, Japanese get 100% of the leading roles. So what?

He has a really good point and all you can do is tell him to shut up? I guess he won the argument then.

reply

[deleted]

So are you saying in America, white people should get 100% of the roles?

reply

Not the point BOB.

If it is okay to purposely not hire a person because they are white then how can you say it is not okay to purposely not hire a person because they are black?

It is either racist or it is not.

reply

Casting in movie roles is not really the same thing as hiring in a regular job

In a regular job it is damn well racist to discriminate based on race, because obviously a white guy and a black guy can be equally good at engineering or being a nurse or whatever

But in acting it's different. Daniel Day-Lewis may be the best actor in the world, but he is obviously not fit to play MLK jr. or Django in Django Unchained. Jordan Peele writes, directs, and produces his movies. He takes on the brunt of the creative work, his movies are his visions. You can't tell an artist what kinds of characters or stories they want to create

If he wants to make movies that aim to speak to black people, then he has the right to do that. And it wouldn't make sense in that case to cast a white lead

Is anyone butthurt that Tyler Perry makes only movies for black people? No, nobody cares because A) his movies suck and B) your average white person has no interest in watching them. But white people care about Jordan Peele's casting choices because they find his movies intriguing. But he still has a right to write black characters, who then must logically be played by black actors

Not all movies work like that. Some movies are written by one guy, produced by a second guy, directed by a third guy, and cast by a fourth guy. If the casting director takes it upon him or herself to single out one race and only consider that one race, without basing that decision on any creative decisions made by the writers, producers, or directors, then yes that could very well be said to be racist

reply

Yeah, his voice sucks. Rod Serling to Peele in terms of voice is equivalent to Don Pardo to Darrell Hammond on SNL. Morgan Freeman too busy? I think his voice would be perfect for Twilight Zone.

The last one in 2002, Forest Whitaker, his voice sucked too.

reply

Freeman would have worked. Not Rod Serling but at least his voice is distinctive.
