I think he's a lot more "general teenage boy" in the film, to the point he was slightly annoying, whereas in the book he was a lot more mature, as opposed to Hazel, who was a perfect match in the book and film. What do you think?

I suppose the actor interpreted that persistent half-smile as confidence, but to me it looked like he was constantly thinking "how great am I??"
No normal person would be walking around with that kind of smile unless he just did something to be proud of.
