So did Neimann go on to have a great music career after the performance.

I guess Fletcher's methods worked on him in the end since he made the flawless drum performance, so did he finally go on to become the next great Jazz musician like Charlie Parker??

I think he probably had a successful career after that, yes, but I suspect he also continued to alienate people.

He got work as a sideman playing gigs here and there making connections and getting noticed. He then got a break with a label doing work with a jazz quartet. They cut a couple of records, did a tour and a couple of festivals; eventually though his flamboyant style and raging ambition didn't jive well with the other members and he soon wore out his welcome. At that point Andrew was a big enough name to make ends meet by continuing as a sideman. Being a New Yorker he worked the local scene, but never really "hit it big". To be honest his most stable work came as a regular with a Jazz Lounge house band. That lasted 3 years when he up and quit for no known reason. After a failed audition with the Saturday Night Live Band where he got into a fist fight with band leader and legendary saxophonist Lenny Pickett he hit the skids. He routinely called Nicole some nights and is only seen at his corner drugstore buying up all the band-aides, gushers and swedish fish. His career is currently on hiatus.

+1

Because he wasn't taught to be great -if it CAN be taught - just manipulated into always seeking someone else's approval and idea of what greatness was.

Because he had a singular obsession, and had nothing else of worth or stabilizing in his life, when he didn't measure up he committed suicide and died alone, never having enjoyed playing music.

Actually pretty funny! And the Nicole bit shows you know he and Nicole Kidman are friends from Rabbit Hole.

He died broke and drunk and full of heroin at the age of 34.

I believe that was the opinion of the director as well...
