What would you do if you were Fletcher's student?

Would you stay in the class? Walk out when he throws a tanrum? Drop out? Try talking back to him?

There aren't people like fletcher in real life, he would of been kicked out of school a long time ago. Pretty much every single great at anything human ever was not made by someone like fletcher. That kind of teaching method has been proven again and again to be damaging.

I had a teacher who was similar to him in high school, actually. She never threw stuff at the students or anything, but she was verbally abusive and cursed a lot. Nothing was ever done to her despite complaints over the years. In fact, I think she might still be teaching there and it's been about 14 years since then, and that's an uncomforting thought.

They absolutely do exist. I was trained by one. He pushed me to my limits which caused me to grow in profound ways. I still think about it today. Very grateful for that experience.

There are ppl like Fletcher in Army.
Don't know how for everyone else, but for me this type of "studying" doesn't work at all.
Makes quite opposite effect.

Of course but those men train soldiers to kill. Big difference.

So this movie is Pure Fantasy.

I'd suck him off

Quit, because I have more self-respect and would not tolerate that treatment, nor even want that energy around me [even when it is someone else demeaned.

I thought Andrew was completely obsessive and, literally, unbalanced when he told his GF he couldn't date her bc he needed the time to play drums, bc he was going to be one of the greats. It was like a high school freshman saying he didn't have time for school bc he needed to practice for when he would be in the NBA.

I felt very sad for someone so deluded then bc I knew he would have a tortured, tragic, and short life in the real world.

I am a really intense person but I've learned how to keep myself from destroying myself.

And, yeah, I'd sue him and the school, be re-instated, or use Fletcher's termination as evidence to get into a better school.

Deluded, or determined?

I think the problem is people get caught up in their own feelings that they miss out on opportunity. No one is obligated to hold your hand in life but the key to people like Fletcher is proving them wrong, that's what they want. They are beyond your approval. I'm only speak of those impossible to please teachers that really care about your potential. It's controversial but I can respect it.

What to do? Not sure. I suppose I could laugh it off.

Because:

Time is much worse problem than motivation. Someone with a lot of time and self-motivation has a huge edge over someone with Fletcher on their butt all the time!

Well, there is the problem of low-motivated students, who jerk off - and drop out. But Fletcher couldn't save them - just like his yelling won't make a difference to highly-motivated students.

However, Fletcher might have had a good idea with bringing in other drummers. It's kind of like how a woman punishes a cheating man - by mentioning other guys (to make him jealous).

I had football coaches like that in the 7th grade. I hated it...I quit after the first game because I didnt understand how to read football plays and I wasnt going to stick around for the verbal abuse because I didnt know how.

reply

Being totally straight with my answer - I would have quit.
