Brilliant!!!

Old school British humour with a legendary cast. Jokes and mannerisms were hilarious, some will not "get" the jokes as it might not fall into their usual American imported soaps. Already set the box to record the series.

reply

I set the series record before it started. Definitely won't be deleting it. I don't watch many sitcoms but will be watching this one every week.

reply

Cosign, this was hilarious.

Only current show to make me laugh this much is Curb Your Enthusiasm.

reply

It's spelled "cosine", you ninny!

reply

I think, the poster meant to write "consign", as in "seconded", "confirmed".

reply

Uhm, I was kidding...

reply

Oops! Sorry, I misread you. Never mind ...

reply

I love making this kind of jokes because they work. And they work because there are so many weird and dumb people on the internet that you can never know whether they are being serious

reply

I don't appreciate being called weird or dumb. Language is my profession, I thought I was doing someone a favour. Guess, I just should have stayed out of it.

reply

Uhm, I wasn't talking about you. You should chill out and re-read my posts.

reply

I laughed my ass off. Love this show.

reply

I thought it was the worst show I have seen in years. Poorly acted and written. Utter rubbish.

reply

Agree with you Beano. Looked forward to this because I admire Ian McKellan & Derek Jacobi but thought they both overacted and the script was terrible.

reply

Um...no.
Let me guess: you are somehow involved in the show or are a relative of somebody who is?

reply

Nope, just enjoyed the banter between the two characters and the constant winding up of each other. I liked its simplicity and reminded of people I know.

reply

I enjoyed it, I am not fond of the old school set piece type of comedy but the charm of the leads just cannot be ignored.

I love how they take from real life as well, with taking the P out of where they come from.....

If you love Satan and are 100% proud of it copy this and make your signature!

reply

Because of the great cast I looked forward to this. Despite the efforts of McKellen in particular the very lame script and dire, repetitive jokes made watching it a disappointing experience. Early days; it might improve and McKellen is always worth watching.

reply

I must have been watching a different show to the main reviewer ( not xdav)
I thought this show excellent, the acting was great, ok some of the writing was a little "low" but apart from that looking forward to more.

reply

Ditto: the jokes aren't particularly original or subtle, but watching McKellen and Jacobi while they gamely make fun of themselves is quite enjoyable...

reply

Same here. The on-screen interaction between McKellen and Jacobi make this show. They aren't afraid to laugh at themselves and that's refreshing to see from two such actors. It's rare to find a sitcom that makes me laugh and smile. McKellen and Jacobi playing a couple of bitter old queens - fabulous!
