Theme tune

I really don't like the opening titles. The graphics are a bit "Men Behaving Badly" and then theres that theme tune. I don't know who decided on 80s dance music, it doesn't suit the show, characters, setting, style etc.

Any thoughts?

I've you were gay and had seen AbFab, it makes sense.

I am gay and I have seen AbFab. It still doesn't suit the show.

"You never can say good-bye". It fits their situation.

Perfect answer!!

The bad news is you have houseguests. There is no good news.

Still the wrong era. Then that makes the characters as old as I am, in their late 50's. The song came out when those two were in their 50's. What they probably weren't doing, was dancing at the discos. They were probably at the theatre. Want to suggest a more appropriate song? I would've chosen for those two, something more sophisticated/elegant/gentlemanly from the 30's/40's/50's. But, hey! How are you going to attract the under 50 crowd? Isn't that what "Dancing With The Stars" is all about?

reply

How old do you think they are? 105?

30's, 40's, 50's....right, because anyone's closest identification with music is from infancy through puberty.

The song first came out in 1971 when they would have been in their early 30's (rather an 'active' time of life), the version used is simply the latest cover of a much older piece and one potentially much cheaper to license.

I tune fits because it's fast-paced, just like the rapid-fire zingers the charcters throw at each other. It's also rather zany, like the show in general.

Funny never really thought about the intro tune. The title name is done in a very period style, on a flashy slant. But then I'm a visual artist.
Yes the lines fly fast, zany in best Ab-Fab way. Wasn't sure this show would
grab me but man they are all excellent. That buying a suit at store was a riot.
I mean Are You Being Served? Well damn, for sure. Ash is very good player. They all are spot on. Writing is a joy. What the heck is coming next I keep thinking.
Fits well right after the hour & a half main show. Nice going PBS BBC.

If it hasn't been posted yet, the theme song is "Never Can Say Goodbye" by THE COMMUNARDS from c. 1985. It was always a favorite and fits just right as the theme to VICIOUS.

Drmark7, thanks for naming the song and group, I was sure I'd heard the song before but couldn't place it.
