Borderline personality disorder

Anyone else get the impression that Katie had BPD?

reply

Yeah quite possibly, I'm not expert on the subject though

Why are you keeping this curiosity door locked?

reply

Certainly seemed like it. But from what I know, those that have BPD do not have any self-awareness. Katie definitely had self-awareness, was able to admit her behavior, have insight, and change (possibly...since we don't see Katie and her boyfriend years down the line).

Those with BPD, similar to sociopaths, have no empathy and don't even think they have a problem. They are master-manipulators and have no self-awareness. And they never get better. While Katie's behavior was similar, she was able to have insight.

. . . the problem with movies like this is the pervasive explanations explained in simplistic random comnents by the characters and their actions ...

In order to really 'get' a character like Kate, one almost needs a psychology degree or personal in-depth experience which has been weaned off denial ...

In plain-out simplistic terms - She suffered primarily from abandonment issues. All other of behaviours, mind-sets and actions emanating from that primary issue are
'symptoms' . . .

No, I don't think she had too little empathy. Indeed, she seemed to have too much. She lost her boundaries and would start doing what others wanted, but most of it was probably just being inebriated.
