Worst story ever ! (spoiler) a father who sacrificed everything for her

Great performance by Russell Crowe as always but the story line was so bad ,i mean what was the point of the movie ? a father who sacrificed everything for his daughter and then she turned into a whore ?

I'm so disappointed as i had very high hope for this movie .

You completely missed the point of this movie, you also have to understand what happens when someone (especially that young) loses in this case, both loving parents.

Katie was reasonably stable as a child, even after the accident, she was mostly happy, and deeply cared for her one surviving parent. The loss of that one surviving parent was too much, along with moving into a home where no real love was present. She grew up in this environment, and for lack of better terminology, ripped her psyche apart.

The promiscuity was a symptom of the underlying problem, with very little to no self esteem to speak of, and with no understanding about how a normal relationship works. She was looking for love in all the wrong places.

To make a long story short, if she had stayed with her dad, she would have been okay.

However, the bigger problem here is that appears that Dad should have been better medicated.

reply

No matter what if you are right or me still father sacrifice went for nothing in the end .

reply

The point was though that if Dad hadn't died, she would have been fine. In the end, Dad did what any loving parent would do, especially when he stands to lose the one and only thing left that he cares for the most, the one thing that was more or less holding him together. The whole basic idea of this movie is the bond between father and daughter.

tl:dr (too long didn't read version) The father probably would have probably committed suicide in the end irregardless if he had lost his daughter.

reply

irregardless is not an English word...

reply

Thank you for that! "irregardless." Makes me crazy when I see that.

Which always makes me want to use it...
My Achilles heal is 'intensive purposes.'
Irregardless, we all have our crosses to bear.

"If you take life too seriously, it stops being funny."

reply

"...intensive purposes." LOL! There are so many of these and they always crack me up! I have a list as long as my arm. One that almost makes me break out in hives, though, is "could care less." Nice to see a kindred spirit in language usage.

reply

No, the internet has broken me down. With few exceptions I have given in to the inevitability of the destruction of language and perhaps thinking itself. I myself would look horribly uneducated without spellcheck but at least I still care enough to use it. And my grammar could use a strong refresher course. But words are a passion. I just don't expect anyone else to make an effort and have learned the hard way to almost never correct anyone.

Bit my tongue just earlier today on "kicked him to the curve" and have come to peace with the conclusion that momentarily has simply changed its meaning over time by popular demand.

"could care less" was used so frequently around me where I grew up I don't think I even thought to question it until it became the subject of comic routines. It would be like fighting the usage of "Do you mind...?" with "sure, yes and no" all meaning the same thing.

"What kind of tea do you want?"
"There's more than one kind?"

reply

I enjoy the way your mind works. The "...curve" made me laugh out loud, as did "sure, yes and no" all meaning the same thing." Re the internet ~ I do try to roll with the punches, too, but boy it does hurt sometimes! 😁

reply

What I hate the most is when someone comes into a conversation 'clearly' trying to agree with your opinion but with such lousy spelling, grammar and/or coherence that they sound like an imbecile. And I'm thinking "no, please don't take my 'side.'"

BTW, hearing someone likes the way my mind works never gets old. 

Oh, last week some troll managed to use two, to AND too all incorrectly in the same paragraph. I wish I would find it now. I should have saved it. It was a work of art in its own way.

That wasn't a fault of the doctors'. He puts himself in jeopardy by not going back to hospital. When the doctor suggests this, he refuses by saying "I can't. I have a daughter to raise."
The father does not want to leave his daughter in the care of his sister-in-law again, because that would give the couple ammunition for their adoption case.

reply

He went to the hospital for a year, then left, after ECT treatment. Everyone seemed to believe his seizures were linked to his mental health issues and stress induced.

reply

it seemed to me that they didn't have the right meds at the time.
electroshock therapy is deeply questionable.

based on that assumption i understood why he wouldn't want to go back.

there was this look of panik in his eyes when he heard that his ex sister-in-law was going to get divorced. it gave me the impression that he didn't expect to live much longer.

obviously his fits were getting worse towards the end

reply

You're pretty stupid bro

That's all I got to say

Why are you keeping this curiosity door locked?

reply

... I was a little stunned too (ha! Punny) ... by the portrayal of shock-therapy in the 80's .... ??

I thought that form of alleged 'therapy" went out by the 60's . . .

While I do understand some neurological seizures can be caused by misfiring in the brain - the portrayal of seizures in this movie did seem more stress induced which would seem to indicate a need for counselling therapy - nit electro-shock punishment.

She wasn't a whore. Whores do sex for money. She was a slut.
