The hospital scene was too Hollywood (spoilers)

When dying people are in the hospital, it is because they are in so much pain, they can no longer be at home. Once at the hospital, sick people are severely medicated, in order for them to be comfortable and not feel the excruciating pain.

In the film, once Greg enters the hospital room, Rachel is wide awake and coherent, and is able to watch the film. Rachel seems to enjoy the movie as well. The more realistic approach would have been to have Greg arrive at the hospital, only to find Rachel sleeping. If Greg was able to wake her up to watch her movie, she would have quickly fallen back asleep, due to the medication dying patients receive.

I know that Rachel watching the film was the most powerful scene of the movie, but I didn't find this realistic, and falls into the trap of cliche Hollywood death scenes. A better ending would have been for Greg to arrive to the hospital, only to learn that either Rachel had died or was in a medically induced coma, meaning Rachel would never have seen her film that Greg worked so hard on. Would have been an even sadder ending, but this is life. Sometimes, you cannot plan on things working out the way you wanted them to.
