I doubt what you said was on the mind of writer or director at all. I interpreted the ciggy scene as, he's only got 3 so smokes them on special occasions...yea?
And the oil part goes without saying. Lol.
It was actually very well done, IMO. It was the entire opening monologue of "Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior" in 1/10 of the time and no words.
