"Political correctness" vs. live and let live
I have never been a fan of "political correctness:, but it occurs to me that tha ANTI-PC backlash has started to get far more out of hand than the PC movement has ever been. It's especially annoying the way EVERYONE who believes in simple tolerance toward homosexuality gets branded as some kind of left-wing PC Nazi. I'm sorry, but I don't fit that stereotype at all and neither I'm sure do a lot of other people.
You don't HAVE TO approve of anybody's lifestyle. Personally, I don't think much of the lifestyle choices of 70 to 80 percent of Americans, and the most promiscuous, flaming homosexuals don't bother me nearly as much as all the ignorant, uneducated "god-fearing" breeders who have six kids they can't afford to raise or are generally incapable of raising. But I TOLERATE people. If they are not hurting me or threatening me, I don't care what they do. That is an old pre-"PC" philosophy called "live and let live" and I think we should go back to it. It is simply beyond me why it bothers people so much that SOMEONE ELSE is gay or transgendered. I don't care about the sexual orientation of anybody I'm not personally having sex with (which is most people), and I think this whole problem would go away if more people simply thought like that.
Even in the case where a gay person hits on you, well, when I was a young I was hit on both by gay men and women I wasn't attracted and I never felt the need to shoot any of them in the head for it. This is a ridiculously extreme overreaction to a non-existent threat. Ironically, this poor kid will probably end up getting raped in prison by other "straight" guys whereas the guy he killed was no threat to him at all.
It's true that it is really a fool's errand to try to make some people like or accept homosexuals as the "PC" crowd sometimes does, but it's also true you would be a lot happier simply TOLERATING other people, whoever they are, as opposed to carrying around a totally irrational fear of homosexuality or just a lot of hatred in your heart for fellow human beings. That is the lesson here I think.
